worst damage.

Whats the worst damage that has been inflicted to a Cav, that has been repaired?

the reason I ask, is that I was hit in the rear end, while stopped at a red light.

the car is driveable, as all of the damage is behind the rear axle, but the bumper's screwed, the ree-bar is screwed and the frame needs pulling, ill post some pics for a look-see.

the dealership I took it too, said it is a total-loss, but said they'll try to convince Allstate to repair it, because it is in such good shape everywhere else.

they've already taken insurance off it, so i cant drive it anywhere and get opinions, but like I said to Adam Kappheim, i'm going to fix it, even if it means i have to weld it myself.

here are the pics.

Depending on damage done to the unibody structure it may be a total. I have seen them totaled for less damage.

wow, im just worried that if the cost of the repairs exceed the value of the car, then...well...you get it... no more car...

either way, i will get it fixed, its just too bad i cant sue that guy for careless driving and following too close, etc. or at least have him charged..

BTW, the estimated repair cost is $3800CDN

and they allready started to pull the frame, so that might make it easier fopr another shop to finish, right?

You don't have to let them total out the car, When my sunfire was wrecked they considered it a total loss. My choices were $2500 for the car, or keep the car a clean title and still get $1300, cost me about $200 to fix it but I do body work. Of course I kept the car sold it damaged for $680, originally I paid $600 for it don't let the insurance company screw you around, It's still your car you can do what you want with it. I say tell your insurance company to cut you a check not total the vehicle and do as much work to it yourself as you're capable of.

3800 CDN? thats like what 3500 US, Wonder how much they value your car at? you should find that out, shouldn't be a total lost

dont look to horrible just a few new things and that dent in the quarter panel can be fixed easily. and the frame man alot of that can be left alone. big problem i see is ....is that your muffler leaning towards the ground on the second pic because if its that bent you might have to check your header to see if its still properly attached. IMO if your muffler gets hit real hard i think that it could cause a chain reaction throughout your whole exhaust and maybe damage your header. but i have seen worst.

$3700 estimate, this is back when the US Dollar > Canadian Dollar. I thought my car was going to be totaled too but it wasn't. There was damage to the radiator, the radiator mounts, everything. My car was @!#$ up. I hit the thing doing like 70 and literally punted it across two lanes into the median.

Granted you said frame damage, but I think it'll be fine.

yeah, thats probably what ill do, if they say scrap it.

i mean like the engine has 114000KM (less then 100000Mi) and it runs great. albeit, there is some stickey-valve tick, but that comes and goes.

thanks for the support guys (and gals, if applicable), i appreciate it, as it is my first car, and i still owe $1400 dollars ( $1388 US) lol.

that basically looks like the exact same damage that was done to my car 2 months ago, it was fixed, $3500 in damage though.

little bastards...thats literally the EXACT same thing

from the bumper to the undercarrage.

the official damage cost is $3800

they refused to pay for the repairs, and I have 8 days to revove my belongings from the car.

they are paying me just over $5000, so after paying off the loan ill have 3800 left for a new car.

im thinking either a 2004 cav, or im looking at tiburons, i want to keep the same body look, so input on cars would be appreciated.

thanks all, my new sig (soon) will have my first ever car in it, cartooned.

i still hope (even if i get another different car, than a J-body, il be an active member)

you all have ben a great help.

Wow my insurance company must've loved me. Mine was quoted and spent at $4800 (4G mark anyway) in damage/repairs to the same thing. And they repaired it and gave it back to me.

Take a look.

Sorry for the crappy pics, taken on my cell phone, the one day I didn't bring my digital camera to work ...

Best part of all of this I love how all 3 cars same type of accident and all of our tail lights are intact! lol

total or not thats a weekend project from frame pull to paint for me ive fixed way worse repairs then that. Heck my old car was trashed from windsheild forward with blown bags and had it pulled painted and back on the road for inspection over a labor day weekend. they shouldnt have to total it.

My car was hit on the passenger quarter panel and then it swung into a median in the road and broke the wheel off the axle on the driver side. Things that needed to be replaced was: passenger quarter panel, axle, bumper, lip, 3 ls sport rims, frame needed to be straighten, the left quarter panel needed a dent taken out of it, muffler needed to be replaced, and then blended from all the way around except for the roof and fenders. This repair estimated around 5,000. The insurrance company wanted to total it. However the shop wanted the job so cut some slack on some stuff and went out and found parts for a cheaper price to fix it.

Take it to a couple shops and have them take a look at it. If you can't drive it see if they will come to you to do an estimate. I work at a shop now and they will go to someone's house to do an estimate if it is not too far away, A good way to find a shop in need and ask how busy they are. They less work they have coming in means the more they will work with you to get your business.

from my experience get the check then take it around and say you didnt have insurance and want to pay cash for it. My friend owns a body shop and this is what he does for me, they usually cut you a deal for cash, this way you can get the cheapest price and can get aftermarket kits for it. I used to have a Dakota and got t boned in the bed by some old lady, told the insurance company I didnt know where I wanted to take it yet so they cut me a check for 3000 and then went on a buying spree for the truck.
