So last weekend a friend of mine finally convinced me to do a muffler delete on my Cavalier. We got 2 pieces of 2" exhaust pipe from Autozone and went over to a friends house whos dad just so happens to weld for a living lol. We have him weld the pipes together, we cut them to length, and get to work.
The project cars: a 2003 Cavalier LS and a 2002 Cavalier Z24:
We started by removing the old mufflers, and once we get those removed, we took two pieces of 2" pipe we picked up from Autozone and decide to custom fab a mounting "arm" to connect to the pipe we will be putting in. This was surprisingly simple to do, we simply used the bracket that went around the muffler and cut a small piece out of that. Here we are measuring up the arm:
Another measuring pic:
We removed the tip's from our stock exhausts and welded them onto the new pipe for a better look:
And finally, welding the new piping to the stock pipe:
Once all was said and done, I must say, the sound was better than I thought it would be. It's no Magnaflow exhaust system, but I like it. I will eventually replace the wholo exhaust, but this will have to do for now.

Since I can't edit my posts to fix my links, I'll have to assume it's the site I hosted it with. I'll get an account set up at Photobuket and repost these pics as soon as I can.

any people wonder why jbodies get crap
This would be great.
If you owned a @!#$ Silverado.
I agree with the previous pposters. Last I heard jbodys do not sound good with just a hacked off muffler...unless it is turbo. Besides do you really want every cop within atleast a 2 mile radius to here you hit the gas...especially at your age?

ummm yeah as the last 2 have said thats just asking for trouble. use a magna flow or some other muffler btw i have a stock muffler with a wal-mart pilot chrome tip. and it sounds great low tone @ low rpm's not raspy liek a honda with a fart cannon if you really want a great sound any muffler designed for a v8 camaro trans am or muscel car will soudn great and have a nice deep tone.
Please please please please put the damn mufflers back

YAY!!! For stock size pipe w/o a muffler.
Now go buy a cat-back and put on there.
baby jesus just died a little inside
Delete... lol.
Now you just need to "delete" that horrible problem between the drivers seat and the steering wheel.
Wow...I am really disappointed at how harsh everyone here was on me. Doing the muffler delete was something that I had not heard much on regarding Cavalier's, and we were doing another car that wanted it done anyway, so I figured what the hell, worst case scenario I put the muffler back on (which I am seriously considering doing).
I like the idle tone, but not the RPM range I'm usually in for daily driving. It was kinda nice at first, but I am really re-considering my decision.

And wow...did you mean to sound like that much of a jerk when you said that? Because that's how it came across...

do you wonder why now?
Kinda lol I've been trying to do things right with the Cav so far. Again, chances are, I'm going to be putting the stock muffler back soon since it didn't turn out like I had hoped. And just because I haven't heard much about muffler deletes on Cav's doesn't mean I'm an idiot lol

yes, put it back on.
lol at the walmart tip comment hahahaha
LOL! I did this to mine as well
I have no muffler also, and my exhaust sounds fine, great actually. But I live in a no smog check, no inspection state, where every car and truck has big exhaust, Montana, so my car is actually quiet compared ot most.
Props for not jsut ahcking it off with a saw and leaving it that way.
If you like it fugg all the haters.
When you said delete, I thought you meant "hide" or tuck away the muffer from seeing eyes like a member here with a Red 03+ did.
Boy was I ever wrong, LAWL.
LOL i love how its called 'muffler delete' as though its a kit or something.
cant you just say "yeah i wanted that fast and the furious sound and wanted attention so i chopped my muffler off".
seriously its a 4-banger, not a V8. Removing the muffler isn't going to sound too great, but hey its your car do what you want.
Rice =D
Lol well at least you learned your lesson. Get a nice big and long magnaflow on there and you'll be happy.
