# 400- Wow!

Ced:
Its the gears

Rab:
Thanks for the kind words Rab. I try my very best to help out here, if I helped just one person, then I know that I did my good deed.
As for the clutch vibration, you did the bulletin but the vibration is there. I really don't know what to tell ya there. I never had that problem, but I do know what you are talking about. When I went on a test drive in a new 2002 GT S/F with ecotec, I felt the vibes on the clutch.
I did this same bulletin thinking it would get rid of the noise, but it did not. What I did get was the best feeling out of the clutch.
I for the centered wheel, I really think its the road curvature.

Chris:
MTF is just as thick as gear oil. So on that respect, the only thing that will change is shifting feel, it will get hard to shift.
But no I have not tried gear oil.

Well this thread is getting to silent...Hi ya guys...wassup?
Happy to say as always that i dont have the gtrag noise...But my clutch is growling and vibrating after the clutch actuator pipe fix. So no change and thats is making me mad each time i drive my Z.
Took off my cold air intake, cause winter here is a mess (snow, salt, slush). Winter in canada is a true test for a car. In my old car i washed the engine each spring if u can believe it or not, cause i do lots of highway and snow and salt tends to get in. Im planning to install a cutback sys, heathers and a performance muffler next summer. That should give me 25hp with my cold air intake. makes it 175hp in total...wow!!!
Im at 53.000km on my car, soon i hit 60.000. Do you think i should bye an extended guaranty on the z??? Well from my experience the z is a fragile car, not a lemon but the low end product of chevrolet. Dont get me wrong, its way better that the neon and the zx3 focus. Everyone knows that gm is the leader of american cars.
To tell you the truth, im thinking of selling my Z and buying a 97 or 98 BMW 325is. I should pay the same payments as my z now. But selling meaning loosing 2000$ right away, thats wy im holding back.

Got to 2 more post left
Yep it has gotten quiet.

Rab:
Its a good thing that you don't have the noise. Are you sure? lol
But seriously, you are lucky.
But I would get the extended warranty, just to be safe. As for the BMW, well you know how I feel about German products and cars. I will say this, you are going to need a warranty for sure on a BMW. The service writer that works with us, use to work with at a BMW dealer and he says that the Bimmers are worse then the Benz.

Xtreme c:
Try the B&M ATF fluid. It has lowered the noise tremendously for me, and removed it on others.

Hehe well maybe i am lucky...Never had it at idle either. But i had the loud metallic noise from hell when it got hot. The saturn fluid took that noise off and never came back. And after to be on the safe side i put the B&m stick shift. I wish u can get a ride with my Z mr Goodwrench to believe it. oh hell you can visit if you want, you'll be more than welcome. But yet again i dunno where u r based, lol.
You see i dont agree with you on the BMW and the benz issue there. I had a 88 325 in the past, and that thing was a charm. The german car is solid as a rock..i dunno if you drove a BMW before, its an experience to marvel my friend. No car can compare with the a Bimmer ride....Mechanically those cars are numero uno. The only thing you need to do with a bimmer is to make sure your front tires are aligned. Because if you dont, its gonna cost you a lot in suspension parts.
Im ready for the 220hp of the 325is. but if im gonna loose a lot on my z, i wont make the deal.

I have a 2003 Cavalier LS Sport and I have the vibrating clutch. It really isn't noisy, but vibrates like crazy. I didn't notice it until recently. I signed the guestbook, but I doubt anything will happen. I'll be taking my car in to the dealership this week or the next. Anything that I should tell them. I tried to read the entire post, but it is so damn long. Which is good. Thanks for any help
Re: GETRAG TRANNY NOISE

Well Polo it seems that the 03 has the vibrating clutch problem as well. Do you have the ecotec engine or the lt4 one? usually 00 till 02 lt4 + gtrag combination have this problem. But never heard of an ecotec with the clutch vibrating. There is a fix for that, to replace the clutch actuator pipe.Unfortunately it didnt work for me, but worked for others.
The clutch wont fail, its just harmonics and vibrations or so its called by GM. God knows....
Oh and btw, nice looking baby u got there.

Hey Thanks alot Rab. Yeah, it doesn't make a noise, just vibrates like crazy when engaging the clutch. I have the Ecotec engine. When I take it into the dealer I will have them replace the clutch actuator pipe. Thanks again.
Sorry for not responding quicker guys. ^Bringing back from the dead^

Rab:
Thank for the offer bro.
What German cars do have that are good, is there structure, but don't let that fool ya with the mechanical and electrical gremlins they tend to have. Your best bet is to get one new. BMW drivers tend beat them badly, so there fore you may end up with problems in the future, thanks to previous drivers.

Polo: What were your results? Just to let ya know, clutch problems and rattle noise is listed for the 2000-2003 models. But ignore this if you don't have the problem.

Sounds alot like our situation, but a lawsuit doesn't interest me at this point. I just want them to take responsibility for this, and quit denying the problem exists.
i think i posted in the now archived thread....but might as well make a post here.....i have a 2002 ls sport 5spd...thats with an ecotec of course....i had the clutch vibration and had the clutch actuator pipe TSB done....stalled the car numerous times taking off from where they dealership had parked it after the work.....totally changed how the clutch felt and engaged...got used to it...it did get rid of the vibrations......but they are back...somewhat now...NOWHERE NEAR like they used to be....so its tolerable...but all these other problems ppl are having....sucks to be you..ive literally got almost 30k miles...like 29,900 and some change and no tranny noises whatsoever and i beat the @!#$ out of my car...race it all the time....frequently see redline in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and very rarely 4th...but most of the time i just take it easy......but point is....no tranny noises....so im sorry for all you other guys..just wanted to put my info out there...good luck and bye for now.
oh a class action suit would work for me. should anyone have the initiative to start something like that, let me know. we have quite the record on our side with these threads as well as that petition page i (annoyingly) keep insisting that everyone sign.

it has been 3 and a half years and two cavaliers that i have had to live with this noise. it all these people can't convince GM to take some responsibility, maybe a judge can.

PF long time no hear

To think I was taking a law class, I should have ask my prof (which she is a lawyer too) about something like this, and how it can it done.

As for the noise, since now its in the 50-60s the noise is almost uheard of, but still there,
Shifting is also good too, thanks to the ATF.

But any who, if I talk to my lawyer about this, he gonna charge me a outrageous price, and right now I can't afford that price.

Mr. Goodwrench

I've been following this post for the past year or so and followed your lead on the B&M Trick Shift after I had gone to the dealer and had the Service Bulletins applied to my c car. Yea, the stuff was a bit pricey, but I have no noise now and the car shifts better than it did when it was new. Will be fun to see how long that lasts.

Sarge:

I am happy to hear this, you are one of many that had this good outcome. I noticed, as the out side temp goes down so will the noise level. In your case its gone, which is excellent. Glad I as a help.
