I'd worry about having it properly installed before you try and supercharge it.

Also, a reflash would help tons otherwise you'd have a bunch of problems trying to tune it.

TJ, have you checked to see if a 2.2 ecotec head will fit the 2.4 block? I had heard they are different blocks and the heads would not be interchangable?

I'm pretty sure compression ratio on these is 10:1, this from a reliable source, so boost should be good to go on this bottom end. Now I have also read that this bottom end is full forged like the 2.0SC, but not from a reliable source, anyone have any info on that?

Aye the compression ratio is the same as the 2.2 ecotec.

Sorry but that's incorrect...

Just to show you the correct compression, I wanted to specifically find proof. The HHR has the 2.4 VVT motor which share the same specs as all the other 2.4 ECOs in any other GM model.

CR is 10.5:1 as NJHK said.
The only difference is the displacement (both stroke and bore). And the VVT in the head. But otherwise they are damn near identical engines to the 2.2L. Swapping would take some doing, mostly with tuning an existing ECU to the new specs. I would recommend a ECM swap to get the VVT working though.

I have had people tell me and link to sites where the ecotec is said to have 10:1 and 10.5:1. When I was researching the 2.4 I had found sites that said it was 10:1 so I figured the 2 engines have the same compression. Now i look and I can't find any that say the 2.4 is 10:1 though.

I've been looking online as well, and I can only find 10.4:1 or 10.6:1, but I trust my source. I'll keep looking, so far I havn't been able to find any info direct from GM.

not all the 2.4 ecotecs are the same. atleast not with horse power so couldn't the compression also be different

example......the 2.4 ecotec available in the cobalt ss(non superchared) had 174hp where as the solstice has 178hp (correct me if I'm wrong)

and finally.....if these 2.4 eco's are from the solstice then they will be rwd which means more work then just 6 wires for the V VT it will take a lot more work.......not that it wouldnt be great to have a rear wheel cavy just a lot of work and money for those of us who cant do this our selves.

More than likely they are all misprints but if there was a difference of 10.5:1 and 10:1, there would be a big power loss in between the both.

Also everyone just to point out something...

The 2.4s listed in the pictures, they are mounted with a RWD transmission. You could take off the transmission and bellhousing and convert to a FWD setup but you would need the transmission and bellhousing that was made for the 2.4 ECOTEC. You would also need the transmission mounts because they are different as well.

And no...you can't use any other transmission from a J-body on the 2.4 ECOTEC.

Not that I like to argue or anything, but a quick goolge search turned up this:

http://www.bgsoflex.com/crchange.html

I punched in 10:1, 170hp, and turned the compression up to 10.5:1 and got 172hp, a 1% increase, so I wouldn't call that a big change in power at all.

2nd, why wouldn't any ecotec tranny bolt up to this engine? Are not all ecotecs the same bellhousing bolt pattern? Do you have any links to proof that they are different? I'm not trying to be difficult, I really do want to know the answers to these questions. Also, has anyone else heard that these 2.4's are forged bottom ends, or heard that they aren't?
