This is a TRUE statement. I may have left the seat a little wet after Ryan took me for a ride in it, lol!
Oh i wish you guys could have felt it before that damn spring snapped, when it was closer to being fully tuned
Matt, Sam and Wayne were in it after the valvetrain rebuild, and proper timing of the trigger wheel, meaning it was conservative on timing, and had (has) at least one leaking valve stem seal. I want to tear into it this weekend
Damn... This has got me soooo jonesing to put such s beast in my LN2's S-truck. Probably could get away with using the factory management in doing it, no? I mean, the LN2 uses the 6+1 trigger already... and the '96-later versions include a cam-trigger... so aside from a tune re-flash borrowed from one of you (And a bit of metal fab-work to mount it) what's to stop me from having one?
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
Dimer, Talk to John Higgins about this.
He is running a L61 on a LN2 PCM and harness, running a LD9 re-flash.

Go for it Dimer! Kappa or colorado/canyon mounts might get you closer
So who wants to Freakotec swap the 99 Sunfire? Anyone?

Sure! Us KGM boys will take care of it.
...that is, if you are dropping it off with everything else needed for a pre-00 eco swap already finished, lol! Of all the eco swaps I've had a hand in, only one was pre-00...and that was 1 too many, haha!
Oh, and Dave, when are you bringing me some parts to paint?? Text me!
oldskool (eco meatcake) wrote:Go for it Dimer! Kappa or colorado/canyon mounts might get you closer
Okay... But I have doubts about those mounts, as the "Collie" is a totally different chassis than the S-truck. That & I'm afraid the Titan-series engines (That's what's in the collies) might not match-up in any way in terms design to the L61.
Go beyond the "bolt-on".

Bah just run it off the LN2 PCM with some massaging. Thats my plan for now. I just bide my time now.
I just saw something disconcerting. The ecotec build book has a chart that shows the both the LE5 and L61 have rods rated to 250 hp and pistons rated to 300 hp. I thought this was supposed to be a swap that supported 400 hp?

That book is wrong, there are several people with LE5's over 400 crank. Dozens probably, hahns kit supports 400+. And bill himself said the motor is good till 450 wheel, now some don't like bill, but he knows his @!#$

I think thats the most truthful statement to happen on the internet tonight.
And that also makes me feel much better about doing this swap come summer.

yeah, I think every turbo kit available out there puts the car high 200's whp. they make 180 180 stock, with 6 psi I think they are north of 270... stupid vvt

I just saw 3 kits, smg, hahn, and zzp dyno on youtube, all were 260+ whp. lowest being 264

Thing I wonder about the swap is if LE5 needs the hardened oil pump gear or not. I cant seem to find a single thing about it. Or if the L61/LSJ Balance shaft delete kits work.

the oil pump gear could be upgraded, and the balance shaft delete kits "should" work

I couldnt think of a reason balance shaft delete kits wouldnt work unless the 2nd gen blocks do something different to the oil passages for the balance shafts. And since the oil pump gear could be upgraded I take it that its not the hardened one.

Ido not think it would be hardened from factory, do you? Maybe I am wrong
LE61T PTE6262 Powered
I figured it might since I've never seen a thread in a 2.4 section (ecotec forum or ss net) about the hardened oil pump gear upgrade, but I didnt actually use search.

I hate to utter their name, but ZZP has a neutral balance shaft kit they market for the LSJ and LE5, both being the same part. So you could come to the conclusion that all the kits are the same, since i think the LSJ guys use the L61 kit. FWIW, the LE5 has the heaviest balance shafts as weighted by zzp
So I've heard from 1 person so far that says le5's do not have hardened gears and claims to have used the gears sold on allecotec I'm going to assume he used the l61 gears since there's no internals listed for the le5.
