Jersey J Meet In May 2005
Monday, April 25, 2005 5:42 AM
Well everything went well in April's meet other than the rain. But what can you do, April showers bring May flowers and it is time for the Jersey J's to bloom into action again. The weather is nice, the temperature is tolerable, the sun is out later and it is time to return to seaside.

If we stay later this time you guys will notice many more cars are out. So we can still start the meet about 8:00 PM so that the 17 year olds can have a good time and make it back before curfew (sorry I didn't make the law), and then who ever wants to stay and check out the street tuner action which usually starts around a 11 can do so.

We will be meeting at White Castle as it is a well known location to most of the members and I will be posting directions up later. Looking at the Calendar how does Saturday May 21st sound to everyone?

I hope to see everyone there and hopefully some new faces and modifications as well .

BTW I forgot to mention something. Saturday April 30th starting at 11 AM Raceway Park in Englishtown will be having it's 8th Annual NHRA Nittor Tires Sport Compact Springnationals.

There will be a Survival Series Bracket Format Race,
Pro Heads Up Qualifications,
and a Top 50 Car Show.

I know some of you are looking for shows to go to and this might be a good one. I will not be here as I will be in Maryland looking at a new BMW (no I'm not leaving the club for a beemer). But I figured that some of you might be interested.

(There is a class #26 for Cavaliers/Sunfires and if you race Bracket Class 1 I beleive fits all except one of us )

SATURDAY’S CAR SHOW:

RASR is another group. There are about a dozen or more groups out there that are against street racing. We could start using RASR but I'll have to see if the local cops are aware of RASR. Eitherway as long as I keep telling them that we are a club against street racing that's all that matters.

Ya know, if anything guys... and i hate to be the lame one to propose this, but maybe the Jersey J's should start considering really backing one of those organizations. Don't get me wrong i'm the last one to plead innocent to street racing, but some of you might be better off learning from the mistake that me and rich made. We got lucky as hell because both our lawyers knew the judge and the prosecutor really well, but our little three honk race that lasted all of ten seconds cost us both about $1200 and 4 points... And when i really started to think about it, i'm glad thats all it cost us.... ya never know whats gonna pop out into the street unexpectedly and cause an accident, even at the speed limit... so why take the added risk of an accident at higher speeds? Between ATCO and e-town there's not a night of the week that doesn't have an open track somewhere, and yeah it costs money but in the end, BELIEVE ME its cheaper.

From what I've seen from the last meets i made it out to, i think the club as a whole could really benefit from cooling down a little out on the streets. I'm not judging anyone, but seriously, the last seaside meet the way some people chose to drive through traffic was just plain dangerous. I've done it too in my youthful idiocy, but maybe as a club we (and i say we because i am again seriously working on finding a project J) really should try to become something that benefits the communities we come from rather than just being a bunch of hooligans. The VW club that I'm friends with hosts a show or two a year for charity, and also takes a no street racing stance. They still manage to have plenty of fun and get a buttload more cars out to their meets than we probably ever will.

Again, you guys know I'm not generally one to get on a soapbox, but I just came to thinking one day and realized how horrible we'd all feel if one day someone's on road shenanigans turned a meet into a nightmare. As an alternative, I'm at ATCO every Thursday, and I'm more than willing to help out anyone with learning the track procedures and helping them set up their cars, all anyone has to do is ask. Alright, I'm off the soapbox now, carry on.

Oh yeah, BTW, warm weather is here, and that means one thing: Dover PD is out in force on Route 37. So try and behave, and if you don't want to take that advice, don't say i didn't warn you.... Oh yeah, and make sure your mufflers are nice and tightly mounted, we don't need someone getting another ticket like Treadway lol

You couldnt have said that any better. Sure, i admit to screwing around but at the moment i dont realize what it could cost me. UTI is strickt about you driving record, really strickt. I cant risk to have anything on it, and the school has a policy where if you get cought street racing, youre done. Its on the same level as getting cought doing drugs or getting tanked. i saw the think to RASR and thought it might be cool if we did join one of those groups, but its up to us as a whole not to screw around and leave everything for the track

This meet is in seaside.

I think the whole racers against racing is a great idea. Its run through my mind countless times. Sure we all drive agressive everyonce and a while but street racing is down right dangerous. I mean from what i know of the Jersey J's, which is only a little, even tho i feel like ive known you guys alot longer, is that all of us seem to love the track. We are all intrested in actual times, rather than first one to the street light type of deal. Id be in full force if we decide to do this as a whole.

yes, this fell true to me too. time slips dont lie, and jay (rich too) was a big help when it came to giving me all those tips. if it wasnt for him, i would still be running 16.6 lol. I really am hoping to go back sometime withing the next two weeks (after this week that is), i want to hit atleast 16 flat and make myself very happy.

Well I agree. We should be really a part of this group. I do belong to TRASH and that is how I am aware of them. I have also signed up Defined Parts as a RASR member and Jersey J's is listed as a sub organization of Defined Parts (sponorship thing if you want to call it that). So once all the paper work comes in I'll let you guys know what it says.

Jay I have to say you are right. You know that I've been in your situation before with one worse mark and came out with paying the penalty for 5 years. I still have 2 more years left from this August for it to clear my record. Street Racing is stupid, and even just careless speeding around isn't worth it, if not for yourself for all of us as an organization. If we start to get individuals pulled over and the cops start to realize that we are the Jersey J's then they will start attacking all of us assuming we are a club for street racing. I think that driving 3 wide or what ever isn't wrong at all as long as we are curtious to traffic, and a little showing off in a contained area can be let by but for the most part we should cool down a bit. Hell if I remembered the feelings of what Rich and Jay are feeling right now maybe I wouldn't have needed new tires. Rich and Jay I'm glad to see that you got the tickets knocked down to 4 points now you just have to not do anything for at least 1 year so that cops can forget you and that the NJ charges don't kick in ($100 a point starting at 6 points every year).

In addition to what Rich offered, I'm at Englishtown most Saturday's of the year and if anyone wants lessons on how to drag race, how to tune and or prepare yourself or the car, or even just what happens at the track you are more than welcome to ask me as well. Even if you are there on a night that I'm not and you need to be talked through anything feel free to call my cell phone.

Being a Jersey J is more than just showing off your car it's the respect that we offer each other and making sure that we look out for each other. Never ben afraid to ask anything to any of us and just don't get yourself into any serious trouble where we have to visit you in a hospital, court, or jail.
