Youd be better off to spend the xtra money on high build primer, a nice basecoat, and a clearcoat. Spray paint = junk. Ive had parts spraypainted before, they chip off with any amount of wear and tear, especially on a cars interior. Ive used a $60 Devilbiss HVLP gun before and got beautiful results with such a @!#$ty gun. Do it once with automotive bc/cc and you dont have to worry.

Like I said before, building an engine like ours (2.2 or 2200) is a painstaking chore , since there is so few custom made parts. It's frustrating to me too, but that's what I like about doing this engine, it's the challenge.

I've been using this guide to paint some pieces of my interior(great write-up btw), but I have a question. I've done all the sanding and priming bs and have applied 3 layers of paint. When I finished painting I noticed all these little specs all over the paint. I was painting this inside my dad's shop and he said it was dust from inside the shop and that it was inevitable unless you clean the shop spotless or use a spray booth.

My question is this: Do you guys run into this problem or is there a certain place you paint that is dust-free?

I've been paintin in this @!#$ty garage we have behind our apartment at college, and outside on calm days. The garage is not clean at all. I'm sure there is dust in my paint, but with sanding after priming/painting/clearing and buffing it it really doesn't seem to affect it. But what I do is paint it, then bring it inside to dry. That might make a difference, since it is only exposed to all the dust from the garage for a very short amount of time. I'd say your probably aight as long as there is not too much dust in it. If that happens, it will not allow the paint to stick as well, and I would suggest sanding it down. Hope that helped.
