My tow rig project- old school style
Saturday, September 05, 2009 8:01 AM
I picked this rig up late last year and have been working away on it since. It was originally planned to be a 3 or 4 month simple build- that didnt end up happening.
I will be posting progress pics slowly.

Its a 1977 International Loadstar- its big, ugly and awkward looking and i love it

I'd toss a Cummins/Allison combo in it(nothing smaller than a N14).

-Boosted LS1?
-Richmond ROD 6-speed(will get sometime)
-Posi 12-bolt(built w/eaton posi unit and richmond 3.73 gears)
-Disc brake and 5 lug swap
+little extras

Needs a drop and a couple of big-ass snails under the hood.

If that's gonna haul your J-body, it might as well do it quick and with style.

I would love to be able to put a cummins in it- but the plans make that an impossibility due to length. Its a small cab truck and would need to have the engine well through the firewall. It needs to seat 3 people comfortably on long trips and i want to "redneck cruise" it with the girlfriend in the middle right beside me
It came with a carbed gas engine so needless to say it is getting a diesel.

If you haven't definitely chosen a power plant yet, you should consider a twin turbo BBC.

Regardless of what you chose, I'm looking forward to what you do with it.[font]

Can't wait to see updates =D

Lanman31337 -F = fatties = do not want. A little chunk in the junk is ok though.

Why not keep an International engine in it? 466's are bullet proof and tough as hell.

O noes!

Its older then the 466, so it didnt come with one stock. But you are correct on what it is going to get The down side is they arent as bulletproof as a cummins when forced to make huge power- should be enough for what i need it for, towing and daily driving.

The pics so far are from my work shop, i get to use it but thats not where much of the building goes on.

Got rid of most of the stock parts i wont be needing.

I wouldn't go as far as what you say...plenty of tractor pullers use them and abuse the @!#$ out of them. But awesome engine choice. Where are you getting one from?

O noes!
