i may be getting an alt. pulley, is it worth it?
Well if you have a decent sound system i wouldn't advise it. You can kill a stock alternator w/o a smaller pulley on it. But thats why i dont have one and couldnt tell you if it's worth it w/o the system. I'm sure someone will be along thats knowledgable.
If it's just a lightened pulley it's cool. AEM makes one for our alternators. I'm sure it's worth a horsepower or two. Riley is talking about an underdrive kit, that is different.. and if you are looking into an underdrive setup i wouldn't reccomend it if you:
1. have a pre ecotec 2.2
2. have a 2.4/2.2 ecotec but are running aftermarket amplifier(s)/subs.
I'm sure the lightened AEM pulley i'm talking about is worth a horsepower or two. You probably won't notice the difference as much as say.. swapping out the crank pulley!

Sadly, no more..
well i may be swapping the crank pulley, how much diff will i notice with it?
MAY be swapping the crank pulley?!!
Hell, man. Doing the crank pulley ( i used the RSM racing one ) is the best mod i've done. I noticed the power right away. I think it's the highest horsepower per dollar ratio item you're gonna get! It will only net you 1-5 horses or so, but that power is all across the power band unlike intake and exhaust! and by doing that you can gain back low/mid-end power you lose when you do intake/exhaust.. it's cool.
do it dude!!

Sadly, no more..
^ agreed
David where did you get your exhaust tips?
i am gonna buy a crank pulley, aem alt, and UR under pulley.
hopefully with all them i will see a difference
aem makes an lighten alt pully for our car but is not stock size. if you get this one youll want the Unorth. underdrive pully as well. if you want stock size lighten pully then go with rsm.

An Unorthodox Racing underdrive pulley is a Crank Pulley

Well, I've done almost every bolt on you can think of (including this upgrade) and I wouldn't say you gain that much power. You'll notice slighly better revving but it's nothing dramatic.

For the $80+ you're spending on an alternator pulley, I personally would save it for something else because gains are going to be very little to probably not even noticeable. Of course, this is your car and I could never say if something is worth doing for you because I'm not you. If you do decide to purchase it, get a stock sized alternator pulley (not sure if there are any underdrive alt pullies available for our cars anyways...) because you wouldn't want to mess with the charging of your alternator like that.

Also, RK Sport sells a crank pulley set....that's what I have on my ECOTEC.
NOTE TO CHRISTOPHER: Fill out your registry so we know what kind of car you have and upgrades you've made. I'm assuming you have an 04 Cavalier because of your username, which means you have an 2.2 ECOTEC but it's still helpful to fill it out because not everyone even thinks about looking at your user name...it's just overal easier. Also, if you want to know more about what parts are available for the ECOTEC, read the
Full ECOTEC Build Guide w/Part Numbers & Links, that should help you some.
If you have anymore questions, just ask.

Hmm i've gotta disagree with you on this one njhk. I think it's because i have the slowest cavalier engine around here so i tend to notice differences in performance more lol..
It's not drastic, yes. But on my engine i need all the low/mid-range power i can get and that's why i noticed it so much. I think it's an essential mod.
Shame the alt. pulley is a different size.. i think i'll still buy it though. As long as it comes with the new belt..
And matt, i got my exhaust tip from a local shop in San Luis Obispo, CA.. if you *really want to know* where to find this tip email me and i will figure out where my exhaust dude got it when i got back to have more work on it. It's cool cuz it fills out the bumper gap perfectly ^_^

Sadly, no more..

Of course we are just expressing our opinions and also on 2 different motors.

^^ So informative!! Thanks. I will go with UR and Rsmracing Alt Pulley so its same size. Because i do have good bit of stero stuff in my car with 2 amps and tvs.

The Mantapart set I have came with both overdriven (to maintain stock charging with the smaller crank pulley) and underdriven (to spin the alternator EVEN SLOWER and free up another hp) alternator pullies.

better a delay than a disaster.

Ah ok...well no one around here would suggesting buying anything from mantapart though lol
