ARP Head Studs Torque and install

What is with fastener companys not giving me the directions....

does anyone know the torque for ARP head studs for a LD9 2.4L twincam.

i just got mine and went to put them on... sure enough... no directions

I dont want to over tighten them, so wanted to ask before i begin...

also... how far in do you screw the studs? i found they all seem to stop at different depths... some threaded in so far i couldnt get a the nut all the way on... others stick out so far i need to find a deep well 12pt to tighten them...

nevermind i found it!!!

didnt come up in my first search, but a few other attempts revealed this thread...

so 70# it is! and make sure you torque, and loosen, and re-torque 5 times before the final torquing...

But still curious about the whole "how far do you go with the studs"

the studs themself dont need to bottom out do they?

even if they go in so far that the nut doesnt completely fit on the stud? i have one stud that does this... the nut still has like 3 threads visible over the top of the stud head. That doesnt sound safe to me.... I would think you would want full nut threade engagement (and a few stud threads showing), over bottoming out the stud. I mean the stud has like 500 threads engaged... the nut only has maybe 20ish...

Maybe i am wrong... but this just doesnt seem right to me.

No then i personally would back it out a little, you want FULL nut coverage.

Out of context that is one hell of a funny quote. You guys need to tell that to every girl you meet.

"If it gets to that point I'll back it out a little. We need FULL nut coverage."

by the way Ken, the torque will depend on if you are using the ARP moly lube on the studs....

I believe it is 65 lubed, 80 dry.

and that is supposedly correct for all aluminum heads.

i have to admit, that is some funny stuff...

but seriously.... Where are you getting the

I read it was 70 acording to ARP... and arp usually gives all their specs as with moly lube.

I guess 65 and 70 arent too far off... but i am indeed using ARP assembly lube on both stud and nut.

so anyone care to chime in here? with the stud lubed all up how heavy do i go on the nut? 65? 70?

anyone?

When I ran a Cometic HG they first told me 65 ft-lbs. It leaked between the layers, so they told me i didnt use enough torque. They told me that 80 ft-lbs was teh absolute max. That wasnt even enough to keep their crap gasket from leaking between the layers. I used 75 ft-lbs for the factory head gasket in teh "race" car and my DD.
