ok i have a 99 Z24 with the 2.4l dohc engine. its hard as hell to find a turbo kit for it other wise i probably would have to make my own set up which i dont have the time money or knowledge. but in the long run no matter how much money or time it takes, i would like to crate a rear wheel drive z24. so far this is my plan.......the solstice is rear wheel right so what if i take the engine transmission axles and everything from the solstice and put it on my z24 j-body. i know it sounds crazy and everybody is probably going to be like''just buy a solstice''. i am in love with my 99 z24 and would rather do the super upgrade to the car being that it would probably be the only one of its kind. i also came up with this idea because i want to have the first ever drifting rear wheel drive j-body. i know the idea is crazy but i WANT IT TO HAPPEN lol. post your thoughts please
you dont have the time, money, or knowledge to make your own turbo kit. ok cool but not everyone does
but what makes you think you have the time, money, and knowledge to make your car RWD? its harder, cost more money than pieceing together your own turbo kit

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
^ i was thinking the same thing.
and secondly, theres already been some people who have converted to RWD. it'd be unique, but not a first like you thought it would be.
Check out my build thread!
well ive just found out that the conversion has been done but not with the solstice parts
they claim to have done it with parts from a 240 sx evo and s10. and another guy said he converted his to awd
ask those guys for tips. nobody on here has done that kind of a thing

why do we fall in love with our j-body's so much that we think we cant buy something else?
and for the record.. for the money you would need to put into the cav in just fabrication alone you could probably buy a nice used solstice.

to be honest by the way you sound this idea is WAY over your head.. if you did even want to do it and some how got the money to get the parts you would get them to your house and set them next to your car and not even know where to start... not trying to be rude but i think we have all done it.. wanted a project that is way to big for us.. and thats a HUGE project with alot of little little things that you wouldn't even thinking of needing
Just my 2cents.
people do it all the time.
hell I made my car RWD then went back to FWD, then I tried side wheel drive but that didn't work too well...

The funny thing to me is this is the same response given to the first person wanting to put a 3800 V6 in a Cavi or the IRS rear suspension from the Alero or any other first. Everyone wants to kill the dreamers and people who want something different, I say if that's what you want go for it anything is doeable with enough time, money an will power.
just think........... ls1.....6speed........irs........go on youtube and look up the civette its pretty cool for a honda! just wanted to add my Lincons

It may be the same response, however a 3800 swap is a walk in the park in every possible way compaired to a project like this. Have you ever backhalved or seen a backhalved car before? Not only that the cost to do something like this properly and have it safe/streetable is going to be in the 20K+ range even doing all of the work yourself. there will be endless custom stuff etc. and if you think i'm retarded for setting the price that high think again. there are TONS and TONS of 'little' things that will add up costs QUCK! I've done plenty of backhalves on vehicles and lots of racecars. Its no where near cheap and very labor intensive.

Oh trust me Justin I know how much work it is and how much it costs, I just sold my back halved 73 Camaro, but my point was the very first anything is met here with skepticism. And before anyone had sucessfully completed the 3800 or IRS swaps when the idea was first presented the ideas were scoffed at as impossible or too expensive. Yet the people who really wanted them perservered and now others are following in their footsteps.
