Removing the cat?

Would removing the cat help an ECO with exhaust. Or would it hurt more than it helps?

It wouldn't help you as far as performance. It would mainly make your car sound louder and that's about it.

The whole "removing" the cat thing usually works better on vehicles that are boosted because the less restriction and less backpressure, the better.

it's illegal.... but if you have friends to inspect your car you'd be fine...

we need backpressure period...

but if you remove it.. dont go any bigger then a 2.25 exhaust, I know it would help, but you would not see a big of a gain as someone who is boosted who removes theres. I remember rk sport doing a dyno test and gaing 6 or 7 whp and 9 tq.

It's still illegal. Even without inspections. I took my old car to get the oil changed and have a tune-up done when I lived in an apartment. The shop wouldn't touch it because I dind't have any of the emissions stuff, including the cat. I live in Iowa where pretty much anything goes no inspections no CARB regulations...

Even if you don't have emissions testing, try to take it easy on the environment

Sorry, not to sound picky but, you wouldn't have CARB regulations in Iowa...

CARB = California Air Resources Board

Picky!! My point was we don't have the crappy big brother anti go fast emissions laws like they do. And other states have the same laws, but we don't.

Picky!!

We'll the car is pretty loud anyway, but I don't have any testing either. So I guess I'll wait till I'm boosted!!

Not to be picky, but the EPA requires the Cat to be there on a federal level. This means it is illegal anywhere in the US. Its just harder to get caught in some places.

While I'm at it...... No engine needs backpressure.

Butt dyno says there isn't much of a difference. Being turboed it isn't much louder w or wo a cat.
