the neon tube to hose connector has a diff threading so an adapter would be needed for that but from the looks of it thats all length of the hose looks ok but i dont have anything mounted yet so I wont guarentee anything just yet

Alright, any word on the measurements for the clearancing? or just use the hub for the fit?

Im just going off the axle mount for the bolt holes that you have to drill if thats what your asking

ok, nevermind after looking a few more times, the machining is to clearance the hub width.

So I just need a spare hub to give my machinist, and tell him to make it fit in the center hole, along with four holes for the mounting bolts. easy enough.

Re: Neon disc swap how to

you dont want to use the hole the neon used to center as thats not correct, you need to have the holes perfect so that the caliper sits on rotor correct, centering it onnt he neon hole would suck the caliper inwards and it wouldnt work unless im misunderstanding you.

The big round hole is nothing but a clearance hole as far as i can tell, it doesnt have to be perfect but Im going with matching it to the hole on the suspension mounting point.

no you are understanding me.

So the center hole doesn't need any real work done to it, it just needs "moved" to center on the J-body hub more or less. The caliper mount will need some clearancing to allow the hub to fit inside it though, and the 4 holes need to be setup perfect (to set the caliper to level on the car?). I'm assuming there is a measurement already for the location of the holes? if not, then could someone post them up when they get them, or I'll try to get them when I do the machining, and that could be a few weeks.

I still only have the neon calipers. I keep forgetting to bring the hub puller to the junk yard with me to take the center hub off the rear of the neon

Are you sure you need a puller? the neon I got my brakes off, once I got the giant hub nut off the wheel bearing was a slide by hand off on both sides not even a bit of resistance

Really? ok looks like ill have to put some muscle into it.. Unless theres a difference in the brakes with the Dodge and plymouth neon.. I was working on the plymouth sport.

In the center of the hub there's this polished diamond shaped thing and it looks like the shoes and the caliper bracket wont fit over that unless I pull it off.. Well, we'll see.

Thanks.

Any word on those measurements for the hole locations, and the center hole offset? maybe a simple print or a written layout?

Has anybody successfully attempted or finished this on a 3rd gen yet?

i was at the junkyard today and noticed that the intrepids have the same rear disks as a neon, so those will work too, for those who have a tough time finding rear neon disks

One question.... will 95 - 05 drilled rotors fit? Do I have to get a set for dodge neon only?

I wanna say yes to both questions man, but not 100% sure.. I think James told me at the bash that we would need the Neon rotors.. Hopefully he can clear that up for us.

I assume you are talking about Cavy rotors?? No they wont work. The neon rear disks have a drum inside them for the Ebrake.

^^ I said I wasnt 100% sure.. LIke I said, I think James said we had to use Neon rotors.. Thanks for clearing it up

Ah interesting... thanks for the input! I hope the rear rotors from Neon isnt a big difference on the looks. But its gonna look better than the drums!

Phewes. look on page 1. That should bring relief to your concern about how the neon brakes will look I plan on going with the slotted rotors like my front cavy ones, so hopefully they'll look that much better than stock.

Yeah I know how it looks like but when I was looking through for some drilled rotors on ebay. It got me confused by looking at them and they look so much alike to our J's rotors. But they're just for the front!

So when I looked up for the rears only! I can see the difference between the front and rear for the Neons. They have different rotors for the front and rear.

Ok, sorry I haven't been on in a while. I've had some military obligations.

I haven't measured up the bolt pattern yet. The way I did it was to give the shop the spare axle I had, and the Cavalier bearing. That way, he could drill the four holes, and then clearance the center hole, then mill back the inside of the caliper bracket for the bearing. He didn't measure anything, he just set the bearing on there, marked off what needed to go, and milled it. The only thing that needs to be dead on is the center hole and the four bolt holes. The clearancing is only to fit the bearing in the bracket. The centerline of the existing Neon large hole and centerline of the large Cavalier hole NEED to be the same, and thats the only way you can make sure the rotor is in the correct position.

Intrepids share the same caliper and rotor, but the bracket is a bit different (it may work, but I have no clue)

There are several different rotors available for the Neon. Powerslot and Brembo are two offhand. EBC does not make a rear pad set for the Neon. It kind of upset me, since I like the Greenstuffs.

I will be pulling the assembly off my car this weekend so I can weigh it all and get some measurements for people that have asked both here and on V6Z24.com. I'm really sorry I've been away for so long.

Take your time, it's because you serve that we can do things like this.

Perhaps a blueprint of sorts so we don't all have to buy a spare axle to do this mod (LOL). or some detailed notes to go by.

So you are saying that the center hole is just opened up, and is still centered on the bracket (compared to the original hole), and the four other holes are then added in at a precise location (determined by the J-body axle). What we are really locating off of is the center hole then. Am I getting this right?

The four other holes are set so that the caliper is riding "level" to the ground (the same distance from the ground on both sides), correct?

So, when doing this, I may have to do the center hole to the J's specs, then position the mount on my axle so it's set "level" to get my other hole locations.
