well think about this. you have your nitrous bottle mounted in your trunk, someone rearends you. that can cause a saftey hazzard. the gas in your gas tank can ignite and make the bottle of nitrous exploded. it does say on the bottle to keep away from open flame

and the chance of that is very unlikely, and the same as if you have a bottle of co2 in there, not to mention......that won't happen, its imossiible, stop taking nitrous lessons from fast and the furious, when a bottle of nitrous oxide is heated, teh gas will expand, when the gas expands beyond the limits of the burst disc in the valve, the burst disc will burst releasing all the nitrous oxide harmlessly with out your catostrophic grenade bottle effect.
so the exploding bottle theory is toast.......NEXT
try again, explain why nitrous is illegal to use on the streets, because i sure as hell can't find a reason why

cops hate fast drivers, and nitrous helps you go fast? and not to kill your argument (i love nitrous, myself), but it is VERY intoxicating. after a few breaths of pure nitrous youre OUT. add the sulfur dioxide that's present in automotive nitrous and youre not going to breathe very well. still.... its dumb. why cant a guy in a J use his nitrous to get a mere 200hp when the guy over there in his corvette has 500hp just by flooring it?
i give up

NOT EXPLOSIVE?!?! what the hell r u talkin about, havent u seen F&F when diesel yells "Nawwwwwwws!" and the car blows up?!
automotive nytrous+ (thats what automotive grade nitrous is called) will make you sick before it makes you high, and since the line should be routed under the car, leaks getting you high is basically a null point
and orlandomon i hope your joking, haven't you seen the label on a tank that says "non-flammable gas" that means its not explosive or flammable

I wish i still had the website. There was a guy who had a website showing what Nitorous did to his car and garage. I saw the website about 2 years ago. The guys car mess up and his garge burned down but luckily the fire department got there in time before it got tot the house. He said they heard a loud explosion and felt some vibration when they got out the car was on fire and so was the garage.
Here is Nitrous explosion in a car. It is no the same car but that is the kind of damge you can get.

well obviously they had a defective burst disc, the disc, when properly installed will vent the nitrous outside of the car, it vents even better if you have a blowdown tube, then it vents outside the car. and are you sure it was nitrous that did that, thats impresive burn marks for a non flammable gas, now any compressed gas without a burst disc can rupture the tank and make a big shrapnel bomb, but a non flammable gas should not do that

you even know what Nitrous is made out of? its part Oxygen. the same Oxygen humans breath. the same Oxygen that fire use to burn. Oxygen helps feed fires making them get bigger and last longer doing more damage like MyLife75 had posted. get it now?

I believe the exposion above is the result of leaving a bottle heater on, I know for a fact the one you're referring to was.
lol yeah i was kinda jokin there. but i dont know jack about N20, in fact, I never even visit this
forum, I just saw it on the recent posts thing and felt like being a dumba$$. yeah dont minde me, carry on people...

Lets try this again.......
Nitrous is ONLY used for drag racing. Drag racing on the street is illegal.
It is as simple as that, get over it.

no @!#$ drag racing on the streets is illegal, and no nitrous isn't only for drag........look at nx's faq. one question reads......"when is the best time to use nitrous?........When u want to go fast" i can think of a lot of times when you need or want to go fast, you can go just as fast eventually by using just the gas pedal but nitrous just lets you hit whatever speed you wanted to go faster, so that makes no sense to make nitrous illegal, i understand speeding is illegal, but why is something that is used for accelleration illegal so long as you don't break the speed limit.
and yes i know what nitrous oxide is, its 2 atoms of nitrogen mixed with one atom of oxygen, but its harmless by itself, it needs a fire to even remotely possibly help it burn, and i don't see a plastic gas tank causing much of a fire, and who said the bottle is in the trunk anyways, hell it could be ont he passenger seat floor, far removed from the gastank.
see, stupid laws stay in effect because YOU ARE ALL SHEEP, you blindly follow the rules with never questioning them, i question laws, rules and supiriors, and i can find no logical reason to ban nitrous and not all other items that assist in accelleration

mikec2003 wrote:my only question is why is it illegal to use?, obviously speeding is wrong, but say you enter the highway on ramp and want to accelerate to the traffic flow, what is wrong with nitrous? absolutely nothing
It's my understanding that you cannot break the speed limit to merge into traffic. Because once you pass the posted limit you are considered speeding. It's up to the officer if he wants to cite you or not.

yeah, but i meant, you get on the onramp and use nitrous to accellerate to 65 or 70 mph then stop.
but im done arguing with you people, its obvious that im a free thinker and you are sheep who will not see another angle, so im done wasting my time on you, its a waste of energy

Drag racing ir drag racing, whether it is against another car or all alone its still against the law. Accelerating too fast is considered to be the same as drag racing by law, i've personally been ticketed for "accelerating too fast".

well thats a dumb law too, accellerating to the speed limit quickly is safer, it doesn't impede traffic as much

What?
Did you know that bicycles are also illegal on the Highway?
Cause you must be on a bike to need nitrous to get up to speed on the highway, not a j-body. I don't know how you would hook it up though, but I'm sure you've got an opinion on that too.
Also I understand that you don't know what your talking about and that you got the nos stickers and want to upgrade to the real thing.
I like the quote, thats it though.
the only sticker i have on my car is a jbody.org sticker, and no i don't have a nitrous kit anymore, its solenoid failed on me, but i had an nx kit running a 75 shot. so learn your facts before running your mouth you little insignificant pos.
the only real reason you people have came up with why nitrous is illegal on the streets is that it is mos often used to speed......well then, ban turbos, superchargers, intakes, exhaust, ban all performance mods.....ban all of them, its bandemonium.
you people need to take the locks off your closed minds and do a little free thinking.........baaah baaaaah

i cant believe i sparked such a war with this post. my opinion is the following: nitrous is illegal because some STUPID punks like streetracing. they all use it, and give anyone (nos or not) who modifies their cars a bad name. the danger of the gas itself? nil, compared to the 12 gallons of 93 octane in our fuel tanks. the danger of the speed and acceleration from nitrous? nil, compared to a stock GTO or Vette. the danger of breaking the speed limit? you can break the speed limit in a toyota prius running on 2 cylinders. Conclusion: nitrous is illegal for pointless reasons, and a J-body with nitrous is about as potent as a low-end volvo.
i personally love the feeling of a nitruos boost
thank you Robert Krattli someone else who sees my view.
and one thing on the tanks blowing up thing......that can't be the reason its illegal because every state law ive seen says you can't operate or have the system hooked up, so you can always have the bottle, so that risk is always there, so pretty much what robert krattli said is my theory why its illegal, which is the biggest crock of @!#$ ive ever heard

The officer that got me called it "Excessive Acceleration" I was like "didn't you do the same thing if not worse to chase me down?", he let me off with a warning and I behave around that area now. Carry on with your nitrous war.
