That would be your antenna. Just purchase an 'Antenna adapter' from Best Buy or Circuit City or whatever and plug the one end into that wire, and the other side into your deck.
Hey guys,

Thanks for all the help. You saved me tons of time!

I'm installing a JVC mp3/cd changer in my 2004 cavalier and I've hit a bit of a snag. I have the changer all in and the battery backup wire for the changer (always hot) and the ground already hooked up and now I'm trying to get the accessory power set up.

People have said something about a "fuse tap" earlier in this thread. Is there any problem with using a fuse tap? I'm just wondering because it wasn't really said too much but this seems like the easiest and quickest way to get the accessory power. Is there any performance issue with tapping the windshield fuse at the fuse block? Is there any issues with blowing the fuse? Do I need a special fuse tap or do I have to switch out the current fuse to get this to work?

Thanks again everyone and if you used a fuse tap then please let me know how it's working for you.

you can use a fuse tap, its quick and easy to do. if you have the time or motivation tap off the brown wire that is in a loom above your hood release, thats a direct accessory wire and is a better bet. but if your not gonna go nuts with your sound system, a fuse tap is fine. just get a fuse tap, its made by littlefuse, pep boys, aid auto, all of em should have it. throw a 5A fuse in the new circuit hole, and throw the existing 25A winshieild wipoer fuse into the existing circuit fuse hole. itll be very straightforward once you buy the tap, you'll see exactly what i mean. i have a bunch of pictures of it if you'd like, just shoot me an email boomincavvy@gmail.com
I just want to say that John Lenko is God for inspiring me to tackle this Class 2 BCM BS myself. However, as I was too lazy to read 129 separate posts, there is one correction I need to make. I installed my Alpine cd player in my 2004 Cavi coupe 2 days ago and I lost one small thing other than the door chime. Now, when I cut the ignition off, the stereo immediately goes off instead of waiting for the door to be opened. But that is a small price to pay to get rid of that factory midrange/midrange only OEM deck that bottomed the speakers out at nominal volume with the bass all the way down...anyway, radio shack also carries their own brand of mini fuse tap...just for those who think they can't get one without store X....EVERY TOWN Has a Radio Shack within 15 minutes!

On a ranting note...WTF was Chevy thinking when they designed the radio space in the new Cavis? I couldn't even recess mount my CD player. I had to surface mount it because it was too deep. I even had to trim the plastic piece behind the radio so my RCA cords could fit without wearing them out against the back of the deck. Also, my trim ring looks like crap now because it slopes off to the edges and is behind the gauge/stereo/HVAC trim bezel. I am thinking about cutting the edges even and bondoing it all together so that the only opening is for the radio itself. Please post any pics of this is you can before I screwed up a brand new bezel.

I knew it! Thanks man

The retained accessory power (RAP) is a feature of the Class 2 wiring in the stock deck. Not available on aftermarket decks, unless you get the other other other expensive Class 2 harness that replaces the stock deck and then makes chimes and other stuff...

I have decided not to hack my bezel up now. After looking through the audio and interior forums I realized something... CRUTCHFIELD F**KED ME IN THE GOAT @$$! (Now that's a good quote too, eh?) They sent me a kit that has an EQ slot under it instead of a pocket. This kit does not have the part that sticks out around the stereo face and replaces the aftermarket trim ring. Instead it requires me to use the ALPINE trim ring. (I.E. Looks like ) So, if you order your deck or installation kit from Crutchfield or anyone else and you don't have a half DIN EQ, ask for Metra kit # 99-3301 and that should cure the problem.
I'm with stupid!>>>

I have on '02 Cav and I had to relocate the factory unit to the trunk with a T-Harness. The bad thing about changing out the factory unit is besides the door chimes which doesnt really matter anyways, IF YOU DO NOT mount the factory unit properly and the harness wire(s) come loose from the factory unit in the trunk, YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS. I had the communications wire pull out of the T-Harness from the factoery unit in the trunk and all hell broke loose. While I was driving, the communications wire pulled looose and my cluster read: ERROR and the RPM, MPH, FUEL and TEMP gauge went to the "OFF" position and every single existing light on the cluster came on - - - ABS, BRAKE, SECURITY, you name it, it was on. I also noticed that when this happened the A/C quit blowing cold, I fixed and replaced that wire and all was ok, the A/C worked great again. I know this was the reason because I had to have a Chevy shop foreman look at the issue. I didnt know something like that would happen but I do now....just some advice for all who applies. MAKE SURE YOU MOUNT YOUR FACTORY STEREO PROPERLY AND A WIRE DOESNT PULL FROM THE CLIP OR YOU WILL HAVE PROBLEMS......Anyone else know about this issue???

Removing the factory head unit altogether eliminates that possibility Just hucking the stock deck in the trunk certainly isn't a "professional install" in my head.

That could definitely happen if you grounded the Class 2 wire (the purple one).

Hey Lenko,
sorry about my previous post where I was asking about the theftlock stuff. What i typed didnt make any sense so hopefully this is better. All i want to know is if i disconnect the battery will the stock stereo lock up to where I will have to put the code in or will it just come back on?

It might.

Mine never did (2000 or 1999), but I know of some cars (particularly 99 and down) that have. It seems to be an option level thing... the base model decks don't and the up level decks (Monsoon particularly) do.. sometimes...

Sorry I can't answer that particularly well.

hey, i gota question i know people have said to tap into a constant 12v source liek the wipers but i ran the wire right to the fuse for my amp so i constantly have power whenever i want to turn my deck on (without the key) . but my question is what else does turning the key backwards run? all i can see it doing is it used to turn on the deck.. there's also a fuse on the wiring harness that came with the deck so its not gonna overload or anything.
u're not supposed to run it to a constant 12 source, the point is to run it to a SWITCHED source. hence, you could drain your battery if you have the remote wire hooked to a 12v constant source. turning the key backwards to acc will run the radio and wipers, HENCE why you could use the wipers as a 12v switched.
i've got a simple question :

Is the deck/hvac/cluster trim held on by clips? I cant seem to get the top right handed side off near the glove box off. (05 cav)

its held in by three screws. one at the top left corner, one at the top right corner, and one near the right edge of the cluster. then the rest is clips.
Hello Everyone,

I did it last week, no problems, great sounding system.
My car 2002 Sunfire 2.2 5spd.

Replaced all stock speakers with Infinity Reference speakers 1 year ago. (Ebay US$120)
Factory CD deck replaced with Pioneer DEH-1300 (Ebay $45)
Dash Solutions Mounting Kit GM-K420 DSF (Canadian Tire $15)
Dash Solutions Wire Harness GWH-416 DSF & Antenna adopter (Canadian Tire $16)
5 amp fuse adopter (Canadian Tire $2)

First I removed stock deck and brought to Canadian Tire. Look for wire harness and Antenna adopter match with stock deck.
Cut harness wires make shoter, soldered wires together(Pioneer and Dash Sol harness wires) making sure wires match with each harness and taped well. This was done outside the car on my desk. Only missing cable is accessoy cable.
Removed steering covers strip off orange colour thick wire. This is the main accessoy wire. Soldered fuse adopter, attched and pulled wire to the deck area. Put 3A fuse and taped well. Directly soldered to Pioneer deck accessoy wire.
I directly touched main accessory wire because no need to remove whole dash, dealer doesn't see any modification to fuse box, very conveniently switch to factory deck in case.
Pluged harnesses together and fixed deck to mounting kit to car.
Believe or not that's all..Did not cut any stock wires...did not modify any mounting....Sounds 25 times better than stock unit....Thanks to guys in this thread.
Enjoy.
