I picked up a nice JVC mp3 cd player with colour graphics today at futureshop. Tjey tried to tell me I needed to buy the $80 T-Harness from them, or the $160 door chime module piece of @!#$. I told them to eat me, and I bought a regular $10 harness. I just spliced into the winshield wiper fuse for power. Works great. Thanks guys.
Ahh yes.. Future Shop... the Best Buy of Canada. Eh!
hey guys, i have a 2000 cavalier with about 30,000 miles and i just got my headunit installed at best buy. now my mileage gauge doesn't light up.. i can see it faintly if i sit a certain way , and if the overhead light is on, but i can't see it while i'm driving. now the guy at best buy said the bulb probably blew and told me to buy another one and bring it back... he sounded like he really didn't know what was wrong with it... i think it's kinda weird that it blew while they were installing my radio... i guess it's possible but could they have broken something and if they did what could it have been? and could anything else be broken? thanks guys, i really don't know much about this stuff.
this problem has occured to me as well as other people that i know. it isnt anyones fault, it is something that simply happens sometimes. just give the odometer/dash a smack or too, it will light back up.
Lookin' Stock - For Now!
That happened to me too... but not related to my stereo install. The bulb behind the odometer had died - but they're not serviceable. The bulb is soldered to the circuit board.. (wonderful GM!) and you can't even open the cluster w/o wrecking it to replace the bulb...
So.. if your warranty is still good... head to GM pronto!!! You get a whole new cluster.
If you have no warranty left.. you are SOL. I had to slip a blue LED behind mine to light up the mileage... because the BCC gauges I'd put in voided my cluster warranty (obviously).
BTW.. my page is now located at...

Some guy at a car audio shop wouldnt even sell me the tracker harness today. He said he wouldnt do it because the airbags wouldnt work. I laughed and walked out...I didnt even call him an idiot even though I knew he had no clue what he was talking about.
Radio 12v - orange
Radio Ground - black/white
Radio Ignition - SEE NOTE
Radio Illumination - brown/white (dimmer)
LF Speaker + - tan
LF Speaker - - gray
RF Speaker + - light green
RF Speaker - - green
LR Speaker + - brown
LR Speaker - - yellow
RR Speaker + - blue
RR Speaker - - light blue
NOTE: There is no accessory wire in the factory radio harness. You will need to get this from another location. I recommend going straight to the ignition switch. Its the 12ga orange wire...be sure to use a 5 amp fuse if you splice into this wire.
I wouldn't cut off the factory radio plug if i were you. Rather strip back the insulation on each wire, then solder and tape.
why waste your time with splicing and soldering when you can just buy a harness that will simplify your life 10 times over.

wow ive heard so many different things... there has to be someone somewhere who knows how to do this, ill just go find that person rather than try to install myself
any clues on what stores/websites sell the wiring harness? or what other names it goes by? I live in the St Louis area and having little luck finding them.
Why don't the mods ever look in here!!! lol

Or just buy a $0.25 fuse tap and do as the directions say to.

Why do you guys even tell these guys that you are putting a radio in a CAVALIER or Sunfire? If you know they are gonna give you BS, say OK I'll just put the radio in my TRACKER!
But what about the harness that is needed so i can save myself 80 bucks, will any 21 pin to the trick?

Go out and ask for a wire harness for a 2000 Tracker.
installing a sperate chime module requires the expensive harness correct?
