Static shock?
Thursday, March 10, 2005 10:02 AM
...So ever since I've owned my Z every time I get out, I get the Wank shocked outta me. And it's not just a little buzz from the static build up getting out of the seat, I'm talking make-your-hair-stand-on-end-involuntary-spasm shock. I've checked all the grounds and they seem fine. Stereo is stock.... Just wondering if this is a common problem, see if anyone can give me a heads-up before I startd re-wireing stuff. Thanks!

Ok so I'm not the only one, that make's me feel a bit better, I can't say the same about my nervous system though... But still, I don't want to be one of those guys with the dorky static buffer hanging from the rear bumper mount...I'll live with it....

Thanks guys!

Very dry in Colorado...I get two shocks...one on the inside of the door, when I push it open, and the other on the outside when I close it...

i was going to ask this same question, i just figured it was because im a hairy guy. But its done it to me on all three of the j's that i have owned, and now that i think about it, it hasn't done it to me on any other car ive owned or friend/family's cars.

Stick your leg out of the car. Place it on the ground, and place your calf against the car. Get out. You should feel the static discharge through your calf (multiple times, but not nearly as strong as the single shock). Keep your calf against the car until you grab the door and close it. Done and done.

Good old dry weather. My static sort of goes away in summer, but in winter I am in for it. I've had painfully unbearable shocks before. I always grab the top part of my car as I get out... that way I am holding onto something metal. There's this spray that is for static.. I forget the name, but it comes in a blue bottle with and orange lid. I usually spray my car seat down with it and my hair.. lol.. makes the static not AS bad, but it's still there.

The shock even goes right thru my coat!!...i was even thinking about getting a set of those rubber strips that drag on the ground. But they look really ugly..oh well.

man i sometimes get some wicked shocks from my car. Like the kind that you feel travel through your body to the ground. I found the best thing to do is open the door, dont touch the car, and when i close it, i use the rubber on my shoe. No shocks.

damn i get this too all the time.

my best solution was just to get out of the car with out touching metal and then close the door by pushing the window to close it.

USe the biggest key you got and place it about an inch away from the door. You will see the shock go fromt he key to the door. Looks like a small lighting bolt well with me it does. Or the calf thing works also
