Interior Switches
Friday, January 05, 2007 3:06 PM
Hey guys I'm looking into putting some switches in the car to control some interior goodies. Just curious to see what others have done as far as switches. Where you put them, what kind of switches you have etc.

To control underglow, or interior glow, or anything other than Air Ride & Nitrous.

Lets see them photos, thanks guys and gals!

I'm working on a switch mount plate that will put those at a better angle (and cover the hole that was already there)

That white wire is gone now... I was in the middle of installing my gauges when I took that pic in April

Scotty - B - That is an awesom elocation, I never thought of that, I never use that space because everything falls outta it, the only time I ever put something in it was my old flip phone that fit nicely. Damn.

Keep 'em comin guys great work so far.

My camera is dead at the moment, but I'll see if I can get some pictures once she's charged up. Imagine a black box attached to the driver's side of the lower dash with 4 small silver-handled toggle switches in it, and that's it.

The ones in my car have 3 pins... one for the power input, one for power output, one for ground (due to the LED, it needs to be grounded)

So, whatever accessory you are putting in, the power wire will come from the 12v+ source wire (for example, battery) to the input on the switch... then a wire goes from the output (often labeled ACC) to the accessory... the third pin goes to a ground source.

Or CSK, maybe even WalMart. That's a pretty standard looking switch among part stores

All I did was attach all the switches with a strong glue, hook them up and slide them in, the small area below the cd player was snug enough to hold them, its actualy pretty hard to get them out.

I don't have pics at the moment but I have switches mounted overhead between the sunvisors. There's enoug hspace between the headliner and the roof that you can mount switches and have all the wiring above the liner. To mount mine I just cut a thin piece of hardboard, cut the holes for my switches, covered it in material to match the headliner, and mounted it with black screws and a backing plate made of the same hardboard to add strength. The board is only about 1/8" thick so it's not too heavy.
