extracting tune from PCM of different car

Hello friends,

I have a PCM from an 00-05 Auto J-body with a custom HPT tune. Since the PCM is from a different car with a different vin#, I'm curious how I could go about extracting the tune. I thought of plugging it into my car, turning the key to the "ON" position, but not start the car, and then try to pull the tune with my HPT. Would that work? Would HPT see a different Vin# and require that I purchase additional credits? If I did a PASSLOCK relearn on the PCM, would it work with my car? And if it did work, would it impact the tune on the PCM in anyway? If not, would I still need to purchase additional credits or would the PCM now reflect my car's vin#?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

You can hook the ECU up to your car and turn key on and download the file. no credits needed to down load a file. I have done this myself.

You wont be able to modify the tune on said ECU without buying credits, but you can look at it.
