As for cabling, why use serial, or USB applications, i mean really, there are way faster ways of sending data down a cable, ethernet can do up to 100mb/s and a firewire connection is even faster then that. Go full out and go fibre optic (expensive) but virtually no line resistance, as fibre op is light, and the way the cables are constructed, the light is reflected down the line, so you have virutally no transmission loss either due to induction or impedence down the cable, or whatever factors might effect signal loss.
I don't know, 500 USD sounds pretty steep for a software package, would the cabling be included in that price? and what about updates to that software, i'd want to know what kind of service/support comes with the package. I don't even know what this is, but i'm sure someone will tell me. From the way that everyone is the forum is responding to this thread, i'll assume (safely i hope) that this would make a very noticeable difference in performance. And why laptop only, i have a p4 3.0 ghz with HT technology that i spent 2200 on building, i don't see why my tower couldn't apply this software either, sure, it's bulky and big and it would suck to cart it outside to reprogramme the PCM but it should work regardless I would think. And being a total newb, i'd have to be cautious if i did purchase this package b/c knowing me, i'd screw something up. I have no idea what to change, or what to change it to. I know every car is different due to the customization factor that everyone is going to have different parts installed, unless the software is automated, and it would tune your car for you, i'd be clueless as to what to do with this.
