This is NEVER gonna come out, I am always a pessimist when things take years to come out.
The people who make them tend to lose the interest in the project that takes over a year to complete.

would putting cash up front help motivate?
Re: HP Tuners Software update

How on earth could they not be motivated.....look at the fricken list...lol there are 28 SERIOUS people on there...and lets just assume they charge $500 per unit.

Does $14,000 motivate anyone....lol....cause it sure would motivate me.

not to menition the 100s of other jbody owners would didn't have a chance to put their name on the list.

I mean geez if the "Tornado Air intake fuel Saver" could rack up enough sales to be considered a part of the year (read it on an online article).....How could this ECU upgrade not be a gold mine.

Well thats just my .02.

Alex

p.s. Don't get me started on projector headlights for 00-02...lol

And just think, Someone out there started to wear their socks on the inside of their pants, now look. We actually have half way decent looking ppl in the world.

I mean, besides all of us JBO's members, there are a lot more ppl out there who will see the mods we have, and want them for themselves. Word of mouth will sell this product to gold.

At 500$ a unit, selling to just less than half of the JBO owners, OMG. WOW, now that is some motivation. I mean the only other more impressive motivation tool, would be to hold them at GUN point.

Anyone want to volunteer??? JKin guys!!!...Prz
kk total newb here, i'm not sure if i understand exactly what this software does for you. Increase your rev limiter, well, that would allow you wind out whatever gear your in a little longer, but i would think that dangerous to redline the car.

As for cabling, why use serial, or USB applications, i mean really, there are way faster ways of sending data down a cable, ethernet can do up to 100mb/s and a firewire connection is even faster then that. Go full out and go fibre optic (expensive) but virtually no line resistance, as fibre op is light, and the way the cables are constructed, the light is reflected down the line, so you have virutally no transmission loss either due to induction or impedence down the cable, or whatever factors might effect signal loss.

I don't know, 500 USD sounds pretty steep for a software package, would the cabling be included in that price? and what about updates to that software, i'd want to know what kind of service/support comes with the package. I don't even know what this is, but i'm sure someone will tell me. From the way that everyone is the forum is responding to this thread, i'll assume (safely i hope) that this would make a very noticeable difference in performance. And why laptop only, i have a p4 3.0 ghz with HT technology that i spent 2200 on building, i don't see why my tower couldn't apply this software either, sure, it's bulky and big and it would suck to cart it outside to reprogramme the PCM but it should work regardless I would think. And being a total newb, i'd have to be cautious if i did purchase this package b/c knowing me, i'd screw something up. I have no idea what to change, or what to change it to. I know every car is different due to the customization factor that everyone is going to have different parts installed, unless the software is automated, and it would tune your car for you, i'd be clueless as to what to do with this.

the final product will either be super popular, or be a big ol bombshell thats junk. Depends on quality/functionality. Personally i'm all for picking one up, however depending on price i may want to see the product in person first.

you can do alot of other mods for 500USD that could have a better out come than a peice of software.
a few things

1) this makes your computer into "basically" a stand alone EMS
2) for $2200 that better the one hell of a good computer.. i dont even want to think of the computer i could build for $2200
3) they use USB/Serial cuz people have that already and its easy to program for
4) yes the cable comes with
5) on a stock car you will get some, but you will see the full effect of every mod with a custom tune, thereby increasing the benefit of each mod as well as the ability to appropriately tune boost

Manitoba Motorsports wrote:you can do alot of other mods for 500USD that could have a better out come than a peice of software.

like a stand alone... ohh wait... you cant buy a stand alone for $500 and then youd still have to wire... and loose the features that make a daily driver nice.

I'd have to say if/when this comes out it will have to be the single best performance piece for any ODB2 j-Car

i have no doubt that this would be a benificial product for the j-body...
but who is rich because they made parts for a j-body...

i would love to be a beta testor, since i would probably have to wait much longer to actually buy the softeware/cable...

i see no real sense of urgency to help j-bodies....
in the grand scheme of things, i dont think we have the numbers to demand product.

there are other platforms out there where the owners have fatter wallets.

Re: HP Tuners Software update

Yea, there is always a demand, but why show a hungry man a piece of cake if you were never planning on giving him a bite anyways???
Why throwing a stick next to a man that is sinking into quick mud if he cannot grab onto it??
Why telling US (specially J owners about such a thing if it was never planned cause you all know we ARE hungry for a piece of action) about this piece of equipment if at the end you are going to back out.

Man I have been into this scene for a long damn time, since early 2000, and since then I have seen so many people DITCH the platform just because there is NOT enough aftermarket support. I, on the other hand kinda just grew to my car and I don't see it as a car anymore, but as my best friend( well after my girlfriend ) and if I stop modifying it I stop feeding a person that is soooooo hungry. My car is hungry for potential, hungry for speed, hungry for more WINS under the belt, hungry for the attention that you get when you beat a Corvette, for those things, and I am not going to stop until I give it that oportunity if it takes me 3 years from now.
People need to understand that people that buy J's are NOT RICH, well some of them might be in a better financial standings then the others, but we cannot afford to pay out of the EZASS for such thing and such thing and we can for sure see who is in the better standings then the others, THEY ARE RUNNING 11'S AND 12'S.
I know that a company will not make any money if they don't sell.

Ok, lets look at this one little thing Quaife did to the 76mm Isuzu trannies.
They started making the LSD's for it and then AFTER they spend the $$$$ to make the mold, AFTER they paid the people to calibrate machines, and make the units, they pulled them OFF the market because NOT enough people were buying them.
If they stuck around for a little more they would have made another 30,000-50,000, OFF this web site ALONE, and lets not talk about the whole world.
But one thing WE HAVE TO UNDERSTAND.
Everyone in this WORLD is HUNGRY for $$$$ and besides that, the fast $$$, and if they cannot get it when THEY want it they turn around and do something else.
EVERYONE WANTS TO GET RICH QUICK!!!!!

The conclusion to this stupid CRAP that I wrote is that, I personally DON'T believe this thing is coming out, now I might be wrong, and if it performs like the company says it does, I will be all over it like MAGGOTS OVER A WEEK OLD CORPSE.
I won't EAT for a month if I need to, but I will get this.
One thing that was mentioned is, YES, companies don't make stuff for the J's because there is not enough DEMAND!!!! Why make $14,000?? When we can make $140,000 making the same things for a such Import vehicle.

So, lets all hope for dreams that won't come true. Damn I am such a pessimist.
RoboGeek, no offense to you, but seeing is believing.
Also, you guys put yourselves in the other sides shoes, why would you wanna run 13's when you can run 11's??? Ask yourselves THAT QUESTION??

Sorry for the long one, I needed to get it off my chest.

Re: HP Tuners Software update
Monday, January 17, 2005 9:38 AM
i think it will get made eventually....
but i don't think it is a prioity...

i have been lurking on the jbo since around mid 99-2000 i believe...
and i have seen a lot of people offer stuff...
few delivered, or are still around to deliver.

i still remember hahns 2.4 kits...
j-bodies are everywhere, but those willing to put seriouse money into them are not.
they are the minority.

if this software is released and i am not a beta testor...
i would also find a way to buy it....
especially since NY now does an OBD2 scan for emissions

i would jump platforms, but at this point, it's cheaper to keep her....
ive just got too many parts to start over on something else...
so i'll wait till i want a new car and get a used C5.
used z06 + boost should be faster than C6 and cost dramatically less.
i'd rather be the target for for bangers than the little engine that couldnt :lol
lol.. none taken. Like I said many times, this software isn't anything I'm involved in. Once I saw how well it worked I decided to try to convince them to do something for 4cyl cars. You guys showed them how big the market was and they decided that it was worth it to do these cars..

Just remember they are a new company, and they are doing things right. They don't take your money unless they can ship the parts. They found things to improve in the 2nd version and have been working on that, rather than adding a bunch of cars and having to redo the whole thing again. They don't add cars until its tested and shows no bugs on that model. Their priority is making a great product, followed by adding support for other vehicles - which is why its taking longer.

Just remember how long it takes for huge companies to design and test software before its released - and they have hundreds of programmers. HP Tuners has 3...

I think Gary Howell is doing fairly well, and he sells primarily to the Neon and Jbo scene.

Karo at carcustoms is doing ok.

A few more ppl have made it big by selling to us lil guys...Prz
the JBody scene isnt big enough for loads of garbage to stay alive. if HPT does for us what they did for f-bodies they will sell very many and do very well. i hope the best for them. actually that could draw alot of people to the platform as well. cheap car with great tuning ability and great power trains c'mon.

i have faith they will put it out and it will be good..
My interest is dependant upon price. Anything under $300 is a sure bet that I'll get it. The chances go way down above $450 though.........
