I've got the 3rd gen cavalier and I want the 2nd gen euro-lights, but I have that big huge center bar on my trunk. Anyone mod'd this before? Do you have to paint, or body fill or whatever once you take that back bar off?

You can pop it off, sand off the rivets and repaint, or get the RKSport carbon fiber piece that goes there...
The first option is better, though...if you have the piece on there, it will stand out farther than the taillights...

Or you can do a trunk lid swap

2nd gen trunk is totally different from 3rd, isn't it? 3rd has a ( concave below the light, and I thought 2nd gen had it | flat down?

OK...

Confused the hell outta me now... 2nd gen euros wouldn't work on a 3rd for the same reason I'm asking my original Q for

I think he's slightly confused in the gen's of cavi's. The 3rd gen started in 95 and went all the way to 2005. As for the swap you're talking about, I didn't even know they made "euros" for the 85-94 cav's, not sure if that's the years for the 2nd gen, just a guess on the first year, but the last year was 94 for the 2nd gen. Anyway, you can put euros on your 03. You have a couple options...
On the left you have an 04 with an 02 Z24 spoiler and 00-02 tails, and on the right is an 05 with the RKSport c/f filler piece with c/f tails. If this is what you're talking about, then I hope I've answered the question.

But don't the 02 lights/trunk change with big huge center bar? If i put 95-02 lights on, there would be a huge inset in the center of my trunk, no?

yes and like about 7 holes i think. . so unless u thinking of doing body work on those wholes i wouldnt do. just paint it the same color as ur car i seen alot of those done.
when i say fill those wholes i dont mean fiber glass. i mess get them welded in, they are pretty big holes and they will crack/pop out if u dont do it right lol.+
PAINT TO MATCH THE CAR

DO THE BODYWORK AND TAKE IT OUT (YOU DONT HAVE TO DO THE TAIL LIGHTS

OR MAKE THE 95-02 TRUNK FIT

Make it fit? Its a direct bolt-on... only thing that changed was the addition of the rear bezel in 2003...
All Cav trunk lids and Sunfire Sedan lids are interchangeable w/ each other.
So, as mentioned before, pull the bezel and have the holes (except the ones that you are putting the lights in) welded shut and the lid repainted, get the RKS carbon fiber bezel, or get a 95-02 lid.

A few guys made them, but they are a rarity...

Yeah, about that. They will most definitely crack, well mine did on my original trunk lid, but I wanted the 02 Z spoiler anyway, so when it came time to replace it I just got an 02 Z trunk and spoiler off a junker had it painted and called it a day.

Yeah and in 04 they made the bowtie smaller and gold instead of stretched and silver.

Putting this one simply . . .
The trunk from 95-05 is the SAME. SAME fitment, bolts, etc. If you put a 99 on an 04, it will bolt 100% perfect. If you put an 05 on a 95, it will work completely fine.
The only difference in the 03-05 trunk is that the big, center bezel that is BOLTED onto the trunk. The trunk itself has 6/7 pretty decently sized holes in it to use that bezel. There are a few things you can do if you want to use the tail lights from the 95-99 Cavalier's . . .
Buy the Carbon Fiber bezel which replaces the stock red one and buy 95-99 tails to use with it.
Buy a 95-99 trunk and 95-99 tails to use.
All the lights, wiring, lock cylinder, etc are completely interchangable from 95-05. So if you want a 99 trunk, with altezza's, then get a 95-99 trunk and 95-99 altezzas and bolt them right up and call it a day. If you want to keep your 03-05 trunk but use the older tail lights, buy the RKSport Carbon Fiber bezel and some 95-99 tails and again bolt them right up and call it a day.
For advice, if you want a 95-99 trunk, go through a junkyard and get one for cheap and have it paint matched to your car.
If you want older tails, look in the classifieds here and see what people are selling. You can also check Ebay for good prices.
If you want the altezzas, go on Ebay as there are usually really good prices on those. I got mine for $60 and they have had 0 problems.
Good luck finding the Carbon Fiber bezel as it generally goes for $100-$150. So going with that method is usually pricey.
Thats sums up everything about the trunk swap.
