Haha it's not called free labor. It is called a learning environment with hands on experience creating a work like atmosphere.

well i always was more productive in a "learning environment" with a case of beer.....
thats how i got the dash done.... hahaha
do we have any updates on this? i am very interested....
Definitely interested in where this is going! Looking like a great idea so far.
Yep I have updates. It's just about ready to welded in. Couple kinks to work out and it should be good.

Yea i was curious as to how they are going to be attached.

I don't have any pictures at the moment. I'm using a stainless steel tube with a bolt through it to create the pivot point. There is a spring to pull it back into the door after it has been extended and I am using a rubber stop like found on doors or hoods to create a stopping and level point to remain flat with the door. It's a rather simple setup. I haven't setup how the door handle rods on the inside will be setup. I will be working on that as soon as I get it welded in. The rods are the easy part.

Well I got back to work on these today. Started looking at how I wanted to setup the door rods. Of course it couldn't be as easy as slapping a rod on to the handle and having it work. So I started brain storming and figured out how I will be setting up the rods for the door. Here's my diagram that I am using.
Any comments or concerns about this?
I have not put this setup into motion yet but I will tomorrow. If you have a better idea post it. Just read the HAVE to's below.
- Must push down onto the latch assembly
- Door handle must pull (I don't want to have it push because it would take more room or I would have to switch it around)
http://nwgme.org
im not criticizing your design or anything just wondering... why not bypass that first pivot point and go straight to the one that pushes the latch?
I thought about that but I wont be able to mess with the pressure that is transferred to the right angled lever as well. By using the 180 degree lever it will turn the right angle lever easier by sending pressure at an angle rather then a straight line.
I'll mess with it to see what will work best.

keep us posted, this is becoming very interesting....
just wondering, you said you located the door handles from the gtr? did you wind up with a part number by any chance?
I'd use popper solenoids like you do when shaving and make it all electronic, but eh, do your thing.
Kind of defeats the purpose of having a handle. If I wanted to do that I'd just use a button or something like that.
ZtwatyFo - The MSRP is 278.00 per side from the dealership and with shop discount its 222 per side.
Here's the part numbers.
Left - 80607jf00d
Right - 80606jf00d
By the way this is just the mechanism and does not include the trim piece.

Update: One side is welding and working
I took some videos on my phone but it saves as some weird file so it wont play on the comp.

Here I can help. More than likely it is a 3gp file.
Search for a 3GP to AVI or MPG converter in Google. You should get some results. I want to see this thing working
yeah dude same here.
and u should see if u can manufacture it to sell to ppl on JBO. =)
I brought my actual camera in today so I will post it on you tube when I get home since there's all those fun websites blocked.

it would be nice, but he has already made it clear, that these are for him. but its motivating me to get on my own set. weather i go the route he is going, or try to get my hands on some either from the dealership, or possibly off a car.... i donno.
So guess what? I actually have some stuff to show you guys
Here's the video I took on Sunday before I started welding. It's just clamped on with vise grips so I could so some adjusting.

Well I started welding the pieces in and rushed it ended up warping part of the panel so I cut that out and started fresh with a new piece. Here's a picture of how it looks now. It has a couple tack welds in to hold it while I setup the internals again... But yea it's progress.
By the way the my reasoning for cutting such a large hole was so I had more room for when I was actually setting up the door rods.

Wow dude. That is bad ass!!!! I can't wait to see it finished.
