I have over 103,000 miles on my Z24 right now. It is a Show Car &
Daily Driver. Not that many can say that. & it still Runs great.

as far as gm sucking, maybe some of you have beaten the living $hit out
of your cars and never done any maintenence to keep the car functioning
properly. Hmm.

I just paid my car off, and I've got more mods going in very soon.. the only way I'd consider selling the car right now is if it gets in an accident or suffers some catastrophic failure... other than that I hope to keep it forever.

GM makes inferior products (when it comes to cars). IF i ever bought another GM it'd be a truck. that's where they put all their time and effort.

I soo not agree with you. Did you ever think that these cars, or any car you own and mod may break because of how we treat them, or drive them? I know parts do break on there own, or are faulty from the factory (that is with any car, make , or model). My 2001 Z24 has 64k on it. knock on wood I have never had a problem with it that I did not cause. saying that also it has never left me on the side of the road either. All the problems I have had were a direct result of something I did at the same time, notthing major.
I'm not saying GM makes the nest cars either, but they are very good cars.

agreed. over 130,000 miles, and i make sure i buy quality mods, and not crap anymore, and i install it right, and i;ve never had much any problems that i didnt cause...and even those are minimal.

---start rant---

i'm not at all saying that someone who mods their car shouldn't expect more breakage. but someone like me, who's only got an intake (a top brand one at that) should expect just normal wear and tear. not large problems. i don't beat on my car, its my daily driver and i take as best care of it as i can cuz i don't have moeny to throw at it. i change the oil every 3k, i do the lube job's, i check plugs...etc. but since i bought the car with 13miles on it, i've had nothing but problems. i've got a book of Chevy work orders in my file cabinet for pretty much the same two things. various gas mileage problems and broken shift cables.

in today's market, where a honda or toyota make can go 200,000 miles without a hiccup in the motor, interior, or exterior quality, GM simply gets left behind. as i said, my wife's toyota has double the miles and i trust it to go back and forth from cali to arizona more than i trust mine. i have over heating problems intermittently, i bounce from 15-26 mpg, the car is uncomfortable to ride in for more than an hour or so, and i have to turn my stereo up because the rattling of the cheap interior will drive me insane.

i love chevy, i miss my 89 camaro and regret selling it every day...but thats not enough to make me spend 15k on a new cobalt when i can spend 5k on a 5-10 year old toyota that'll run better and longer than two new cobalts put together.

---end rant---

this is a common misconception when it comes to cars. Treat it right and it will last. Some people have bad luck though.

Im willing to bet that if you broke more than two shift cables then you were shifting harder than you should have.

my car's an automatic...i don't do any shifting. i press the gas and the car goes. only time i get on the gas hard is when i'm getting on the freeway or going up a hill.

i'm not saying i've never raced around...but the occasion is rare. like i said, i don't have money to throw at a car that i broke while screwing around.

I got rid of mine cause it was just a pile of junk on wheels.. Always breaking down or overheating on me, making me late for work numerous occasions.. Good riddance to that car for sure.

spraks your kinda like me. was a diehard gm guy till i drove my mom 2004 grand am, my 98sunfire gt, and my sisters 98 cavalier 2.2. i mean out of the 3 i trust the grand am, but it sucks when you cant even trust it enough to go a far distance.

lets just say i got rid of my 98sunfiregt and went to a toyota and couldnt be happier with the fit n finish of it.

Mike, seeing your post reminds me, I just saw your car for sale again.

As for me, just ready to move on and try something new (like owning a house).

I have had my car for 6 years and no problem other than the ones i have caused. I would take my car on the road in a heart beat never given me any problems. I keep my car in good shape and well maintained. I guess some have had better luck than others. Only thing my the upper part of the dash is cracked.

I'm starting to agree. I've been the biggest GM fan my entire life, but i'm sick of my car. I understand both the GMs I have had have had alot of miles, but not enough to be the piles of junk they have been. My Corsica only had 108k on it and no matter what we did, it would still overheat. And now my Camaro has 128k and it's chugging on the freeway and shutting off. I've replaced everything under the sun including the fuel pump and it still doesn't want to work.

I'm trying to save up enough for a down payment on a Scion xA or xB. I need better fuel economy as well as a more reliable car. It sucks, I love muscle/classic cars, but it's just not logical to have this piece of junk now. Maybe later when I am more financially secure I can buy a "fun" car.

It's not a J, but it's the same premise. I'm sick of these pieces of junk.

See, that's what i'm afraid of. I frickin love this car to death, it just fits me, i've been through alot in this car and had so much planned for it, but I can't keep shelling out money for it over and over again. I was thinking of keeping it in storage but then I wouldn't have a down payment for my new car.

It's so confusing for me, and I know it's gonna hurt when I have to sell it, i'm too attached to it. But I don't want to regret it for the rest of my life.

hey mike, bring your car to my house. my camaro kept chugging and dying for no reason after i replaced everything too. bring it over and i'll try to remember what i did to fix it. it was extremely simple...just one of those things you don't think to check. i'll try to get a call in to my dad to see if he can remember. i'll be home all day today. if you wanna come over, send me an email and i'll remind you of how to get here.

Dude, thanks alot for the offer, but I just got it fixed today. The g/f took it out to Anaheim Hills and it did it again, finally I got fed up and decided to just take it into a mechanic, something I NEVER have done ever, I always fix things myself.

So he looks at it and within 30 minutes he pinpoints the alternator. So I think this is odd but tell him to do it anyways because my voltage had been boucning up and down every time I turned my turn signal on. So even though I could have done it myself, I needed to get home. So I pay the dude and it goes on and the drive home was perfect... runs good as new.... i'm still not going to keep it though.

While it was in the shop I went and looked at some Scion xB's and MAN are those things awesome. LOTS of room, nice and comfortable, good on gas mileage, everything my Camaro isn't! I DEFINITELY will be buying one soon but every dealership around here sells them the day they go on the lot, so I'll have to do some looking around.

But thanks alot for the offer man, I really appreciate it!

Exactly.

Don't get me wrong, GM will always have a special place in my heart. I will always love GM MUCH better than any other company, and one day I plan on owning another Camaro/Corvette for sure, but right now in the situation I am in, an import is what I need.

I will never stop being a die-hard GM fan.

i love my car to death but im selling my car to someone who needs a reliable car to get them place to place (and who doesnt have a car at all) and the money i get from that is the down payment to a new 2006 car (what specifically not decieded yet) but i have had mine for about 3 years so i think it is time for me to move on because i have had the car since i was in high school. believe me though i do get teary eyed when i sit there and think about my car going bye bye. i have treated that car like it was my baby. it has been a really good car. but i take into consideration on this part though that I wont leave the J-scene totally because my fiance has his Z24 and i love it (especially hearing the blow off valve).
