My '02 has hit a whopping 115,445km on its 2200 and of all things the BCM died yesterday. It burns oil, has no abs(died) replaced one wheel bearing(front) ticks, has had a CEL for about 20,000Km. Has hit a moose, been driven through a ditch at 100+km/h(that or hit a lifted truck head on) I will never buy another, it has had a rough life but my Ladas have been through much worse and still work fine.

no-one has been in the car with me yet, but there was the one time I wanted to go a bit quicker so I was hitting the gas a bit more, didn't even realise it popped out untill I heard it hit the rev limiter, lol

1999 2200 auto.Had 957xx miles on it.Ran perfectly.Only think i changed were the spark plugs because the previous owner put theo bosch 4plus one in it and they burned funny.

She would have kept going strong... but i hit a pole.

1996 2.2L 136,000. Blew head gasket @75K and Fuel injector @135,000. Might have a bad thermostat and hoses (replacing them soon). Runs despite #1 cylinder valve possibly burnt.

00' cavy 2200 = 109xxx miles, water pump went out bout 85k but other than that its been maintained and RARELY bashed on...soon to be turbo

no more cavy...now 240 =]

I see a cool-air intake
It's got a NOS-fogger system and a T-4 turbo
I see an A.I.C. controller
It has direct port nitrous injection
Yeah, a stand-alone fuel management system
...Not a bad way to spend $10,000

Just to let you know I skipped right to here when I saw how long this thread is just to add my $.02... Mines a '94 S-truck app (not that I see any matter of the difference here) that's seen 165,000mi before the lifters collapsed do to a previous owner's idiot mechanic. Allow me to summarize:

Oiling priority on LN2: lifters & cam bearings, mains, rods.
Timing chain due replacement: 80,000-100,000mi of operation.
Chain failed at 125,000mi.
Mechanic replaced chain but failed to remove broken pieces of old chain from oil pan.
Pieces found their way to lifters & bearings and caused rod-knock.
Bought truck knowing of knock, intended to replace block with low-mile '00 long-block.
Found pre-'98 & '98-up blocks have too many differences to allow bolt-in swap.
Bought Crower reman crank & bearings, oil pump & pickup.
Found old chain pieces during crank swap!
Drove engine with odd diesel-like knock until failure.
Learned during time oiling priority of engine's design.
Blamed & cursed lifters for being clogged with metal fragments and causing knock. Unable to correct easily by self.
Engine failed to start one morning, inspection found lifters collapsed.
$3500.00 to have truck delivered to lowest cost engine rebuilder to do swap & hauled back.
Truck hasn't gotten same milage since (24.5).
Moral?: Maintain your chain, LN2 owners, or suffer the consequences!
Approaching 200,000mi on chassis, wish me luck!

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

about 198,000 miles i think

replaced timing chain, valves due to chain skip, all them gaskets, water pump, and control arm bushings..
one thing i learned...if there's about 170,000 miles and it's ticking, check that timing chain to see if its sloppin around

Just passed 302,000 miles on my '96 Sunfire. Only had 2 waterpumps and an alternator replaced.
Everything else is original including the clutch and exhaust. It's an incredibly great car !

Hmmm... Must have been built on a tuesday, as my dad would say. Tuesday & wendsday are the days things are built best on because those are the two days during the work week that you're most focused and not hungover from the weekend, supposedly.

Go beyond the "bolt-on".

lllt4k in your post above you said you replaced your timing chain on your 2.2 at about 170,000 or so,question is it better to change it the timing chain that is between 1 and 150,000 or is it safe to wait till closer to 200,000 miles. I think it probably varies from engine to engine mine is an ecotec 2.2, so that particular engine may vary from the ohv 2.2. I have almost 100,000 on my 04 4 dr and was debating doing the timing chain between 100 and 150,000 just as a precautionary measure. It may still be good and all but i think some of our engines are interference design engines, where if the timing chain snaps the engine is toast i could be mistaken though.

My 98 Cavalier RS had 217,000 miles on it when I traded the car for a 2005 Cobalt coupe. The girl that bought it after I had it ran the odometer to 303,000 miles before she totalled it under a Dodge 1500 pickup. When I had it, the only thing I ever changed was the water pump. :o)
My current 98 Cavalier sedan has 136,000 miles on it... at -14F the other night, it fired right over and off we went. I tell you, this is my 2nd 2200 SFI, my 4th 2.2L OHV engine and my 8th Cavalier... these are tough ass cars.

Good, bad... I'm the guy with the Cavalier.

Adirondack your post reminds me of an old Blazer we had was one of the mini S10s the thing had close to 200,000 miles on it when we finally got rid of it, that thing was exactly like your cavalier. Chevys are Awesome cars that blazer we had the battery could have been very close to dead and it would still have found a way to turn over they're unstoppable. And i bet if that girl hadn't had the accident she would probably have gotten close to 400,000 out of that car

What's funny... I got rid of the car in June of 2005 (it was a 98) and it still had the original battery, original clutch... I lvie in the mountains of northern NY, so we get weird weather. Just seeing a car with that mileage is testament enough. The only reason I had to put a waterpump in the damn thing was I overrevved the @!#$ out of the engine coming away from an intersection!

Good, bad... I'm the guy with the Cavalier.
