An update on my wonderful cavi. Had 94k on it 5 yrs ago. Now with 167000 it finally died sort of. Broke a piston and the number one cyl has a good ridge at the top of the wall. Not sure what caused the piston to break but im thinkin the top ring got stuck and broke it. Not to bad considering it was given hell since i bought it. I consider this engine carnage a freak of nature. Was running like a top until it qouldnt start.
I really think i broke the piston about 1.5 yrs ago, ive been having a bad blowby issue with oil since then.
I have a 98 2.2l Cavalier that has 110K. I had a head gasket go at about 95K, but I repaired that and have had no other issues.
i have a manual trans 97 2 door, the one im currently doing the 3400 swap on,that 2.2 had 290,000 kms. and my mother had a 98 with 334,000 kms.

Changed the head gasket on my 2.2 @ about 124k. motor started a rod knock @ 126k, then I put in a 3100.

'99 2.2 OHV LN2
Body miles - 143k
Motor - 80k (Motor replaced with 88k miles, it had 25k miles on it.)
AT Tranny - 143k miles.
I too have never have my tranny serviced, but i did have the filter/fluid changed when the motor swap came about at 88k.
In the future (have no clue when) i do plan on swapping a 2.2 eco into it... eventually. Just b/c it's a better base motor.
GM finally learned how to build better motors. lol

Yeah, those factory chains are a bitch. Hopefully, a friend of a friend of mine... who wholly owns Lunati... can be talked into making a bolt-on double-roller set w/one-piece tensioner-guide for our engine. Maybe cams too!
Go beyond the "bolt-on".

127,xxx. No maintenance except il changes asst filters.
I have 73,000 miles on my 2002, just getting it broken in! I have two friends with high mileage ones though, one is a 1998 with 178,000 miles and the other is a 1997 with 194,000 miles. All run great with no major issues, just random dumb crap that goes wrong with older cars. I am driving mine until it stops moving or rusts into oblivion. I am going to milk this "no car payment" thing as long as I can!
