thats what I was going to say...... all these other stand alones, you have to come up with your own base just to get the car running. Then figure out how to tune it. This is your car already running...... with easy to use menus to help you change what you want to change. I've seen the Electromotive Tech II stand alone, and you have to start from scratch.

plus its about the same price, or cheaper then most systems.

I find it very humorous that HP Tuners decided to use the same enlosure I used to prototype a personal MP3 player for my Computer Engineering capstone project (you can get them for free as samples from www.pactecenclosures.com). This kind of disappoints me. Considering the unit is 650 bones, I would of expected a more rugged and professional casing for the physical product.

Regardless, it's good to see this thing is now in the open and available to purchase.

First of all your not paying for just the hardware, your paying for all the time theyve spent engineering the software. Second of all Im sure they use a generic enclosure and off the shelf parts for their hardware because it helps keep costs down. If they had to pay someone to produce a proprietary enclosure Im sure it would cost $$$$ more and I dont plan on using the box on a Dune Buggy.

At this point, I don't care if it's an old Kleenex box with some wires hanging out of it... if it does what it's supposed to and doesn't crap out on me, I'm happy.

So.....Is it basically a Mega-Squirt minus the complicated wiring and putting it together?

Yeah Im starting to ( I belive) get an idea where the stand incomparison. so far what Ive come up with is that nither are really miles apart from each other. there both pretty decent. with ups and downs. ms is about half the price, but youve got headaches in front of you (trust me on this one)

the Hp is a bit more expensive but looks to be worth it.

really gentlman it comes down to this. you are paying for a nice clean AF line. no matter what you run SC, Turbo or nitrous (<----I dont know about the HP on the last one but MS does )

when it gets right down to it its just another question of what you want to spend and how much you want to do.

Anyone have any idea if this will work on the Cobalt SS S/C? I looked at the site but it just says gen 3 & gen 4 GM...

They will be supporting the LSJ (2.0 SS), but they don't have that support yet.

Just an update

I spent about 5 minutes with it today, set up my ECU for the larger injectors (42lb/hr), have 35 PSI in the rail...

Well last time I started it up (before HPT), the car BARELY ran. It was so rich that it was fouling out the plugs and misfiring. It was actually spititng raw gas out the tailpipe, along with a thick black cloud leaving carbon deposits on the pavement.

Well about 5 minutes with HPT after figuring out what the numbers mean, SHE IDLES LIKE STOCK, with 42lb/hr injectors. No smoke, no missing, no gas smell.

Here's a screenshot from when I was flashing the ECU:

I haven't been this excited since I actually put the turbo on my car

I think it would be really swell if people that got this would be kind enuf to screen cap the main fuel ve table and main spark table (base tables of course) so those that have standalones can compare

Wow. Thats the best thing I have heard besides "you wont believe this but..." from Ryan (cavattack). Now the garage wont smell up the house with nasty fuel fumes. I cant wait til his comes in and I can quit hearing about uel issues and his fuken FMU!

i should of said my point behind bringing up the quality of the physical parts is that I would be absolutely livid if the thing stopped working in a year due to a bad solder joint or something stupid like that. $650 is a ton of money to spend on something that is presented so horribly in my opinion. Of course, I'm still going to buy it though...

Oh and the programming involved with the software isn't bad at all since they're using the same VCM suite they have for the F-Body platform. The only hard part is getting access to what GM had already done by means of knowing the encryption on the ECU, which probably wasn't that big of a problem due to the fact that they've done it in the past for the F-Body platform. If I had to guess, if you cracked open that Pactel case, you'd find an interface made of a usb integrated circuit and either a Atmel or Microchip microprocessor acting as the interface between the computer and ECU. Nothing more than $20-$50 in physical hardware.

It's safe to say that they bank REALLY good on the products they offer.
