Smell that? Smells like Progress!!

Last nights (and every nights progress brought to you by 40 Creek Rye Whiskey) haha

Pulled apart my 2.2 L61

Assembled 2.4 Balance Shaft/Waterpump timing set with Dummy Balance shaft gears

Swapped on my 2.2 L61 J-Body Thermostat housing/coolant tubes

Swapped on my 2.2 L61 J-Body Oil Pan

Also figured out my injectors, see post in the performance forum.

Thats all I got tho, hoping to pull out my Supertech valve springs tonight out of my 2.2.

Well after alot of cursing and swearing, I managed to swap out my Supertech valve springs last night for the stock ones. This was not an easy task for one person using the POS valve spring compressor in the picture, but its done, my arms are killing me today tho...lol

Supertechs Pulled + POS Valve Spring compressor which broke twice, hence the welds

Back to Stock

Also re-did the bushings in my LZM motor mount. I used some Moog sway bar end links, rubber was super tough, not sure how this will fair out...but I'll give it a go.

Assembling my LSJ head tonight with valves and valve springs.

You mean my stock motor?

I needed something to hold the valves up so might as well put the stock valve springs in.

Paul K is more than likely buying my old 2.2 to put into a cav he might be buying with a blown ecotec in it for a daily driver, his current daily driver @!#$ the bed this spring.

There is 3 if you include my buddies 332 stroked 302 block sitting in the corner waiting for its forged Eagle bottom end to be put in.

Valve cover is finished, going to pick it up from the powder coaters when I'm finished work, guess what colour I went with?? hahaha

Well..... Supertech valve springs don't fit properly in a 2.0 LSJ head....awesome.

More work, time for the die grinder.

I'll post pics later.

Hmmm, if all stock valve springs and most after market springs have the same pn's why wouldn't these fit?

Also curious on this one...

They contact the side of the head, just have to shave some material on the outside of the spring area

I believe the Supertech springs are larger than all other springs in diameter

This is the issue, hard to tell from the pic but the springs contact the head in that location. This could be the reason so many people reported issues runnin Supertechs in their LSJ heads.

The Supertechs are a larger diameter than te stock springs.

This is te intake side, the exhaust side isn't as bad as there looks to be some clearancing done from the factory to get the springs to fit.

Will have to hit it wit the die grinder and we should be good to go.

Some updates:

Clearanced my head for the valve springs and cleaned it out again.

New Ford Racing 42lb "Blue Demon" fuel injectors shipped out yesterday.

Pulled the oil cooler sleeve out of my oil filter housing, so now I can block the holes off.

Bad news:

Cylinder head dowels are a 5-7 day wait from GM, ordered yesterday, so wont be in till next week.

@!#$ up all my valve seals pulling them back out of the head....so I have to order a new set from GM.

Other than that...nothing to report.

Don't worry tho, SOMEDAY day this engine will run....hahaha

Got all my parts in from GM on Friday, then proceeded to @!#$ up another 5 valve seals on the weekend.

Didn't clearance one of the pockets enough so I had to pull 5 valves back out and cut the valve seals as ussual in the process, in order to grind and re-wash the head.

Oh well, got the head assembled minus 5 valves and 5 new valve seals will be in tomorrow, should be putting the head on the block this weekend.

One tid-bit I would like to share....I am nearly 100% positive that the Supertech valve springs DO NOT clear the head casting in a L61 head on the exhaust side.

I have wear marks on my L61 head in the same spot I was having clearance issues with the springs in my LSJ head on nearly all the exhaust valve spring pockets.

I think this explains why my rockers where contacting my retainers last year, as the spring was catching on the head causing the back of the retainer to lift up and rub on the rocker arm.
