Jesus.... all these thefts. I wouldn't be surprised if those guys who stole the chevy one took others aswell. I do hope that those guys own up and ship the banners back to you. I know if the were going to be used next year i certainly would send them back to you after knowing that.

Wow Tim that really blows. I just wanted to say that I still don't even own a J but I've been to the last two Bashes, and had an awesome time, and I'd be really sorry to see them end.

I think that if the Cobalts do as well as proposed, and maybe some more saturation of advertising for next year happens, that it could be turned so that you guys at least break even.

I noticed that the Bash was still probably 95% J-bodies, getting more of the Saturn crowd involved would probably help some. Besides the redline and Ion that GM brought, there was maybe one more redline and 2 older 4 door saturns there? There have to be more saturn enthusiasts than that.

Maybe a location thats a little closer to a coast would bring out more people as well. Last year there were tons of Sinister J's and J's from virginia and more southern states that just didn't seem to have the presence this year. Speaking from experience, driving from Jersey to youngstown was cake, but the extra 3-4 hours to Indianapolis made it killer.

By my count there were still at least 180 cars there, not counting the cars that GM brought with them, so I didn't think the turnout was that bad, but I guess it still wasn't enough to break even.

Seriously, i'm sure theres not much I could really do to help, but i'm more than happy to offer up what I can to make sure that the Bash still happens next year. Even if that means finding every gm-based forum on the internet and flooding them with info

Location is always the hardest thing to pick. You might please SOME people by picking a closer spot but then again others will not go because its even a longer drive. I think what needs to happen is the location needs to STAY THE SAME and not CHANGE every single year. If that is the case people will get used to it and not bitch about how long they need to drive.

Every year people say its a long drive and we dont want to drive that far.... look at John and I... we drive it no matter what... sure its easier said then done.. but if you have detication you will do it no matter where it is...

John drives about 2800 miles a year each way and I do about 2400 miles or so... I mean... why not have it on the west cost? Sure it would be great for us.. but I bet you no one would show up from there....

I just think Tim needs to pick ONE place and NOT change it.. and let it stay there....

Who knows.... what will happen next year...........

Who do you think you are, nut hair? You don't know @!#$ about me or what happened, so keep your cock sucker shut.

Weasel, T2, Karo, and Marin8r....appreciate the backup guys. And Karo, it's not your fault man....There's no way anyone could ever blame you for it, and no one could have known it was gonna happen.

See, @!#$ tard, these people know what happened, and it can happen to anyone. Now with a junior high comment like that, I could only wish that it would happen to you....but I can't do that....see, that would be wrong on my part. As much as you pissed me off with that comment, I still wouldn't wish it to happen to you. Now grow the @!#$ up and understand that people make mistakes.....EVEN YOU. Get off your high horse.

Now as for the bash....This was my first bash, and I had a blast, regardless of what happened the first night. I'd hate to see it end cuz of some banners. Yeah, I heard the turnout wasn't as good, and from what I was hearing at the bash, leaving it in one spot would definitely be a good idea. The general concensus agrees that the venue changes are a pain in the ass.
But I'm not gonna tell you guys how to do it, cuz you have much more experience than me.

Tim, really sorry to hear about the banners, and I really hope that we can do some type of bash next year.

Those who are calling Frank a douchebag. Meet him first. He's a really cool guy, I enjoyed hanging out with him. So yes, he got really drunk and left his windows open. It could have happened to ANY of us. Luckily (not saying that theft is good), his windows were open, so they didn't get broken. Also, I think the only things taken were some stereo equipment and a small rachet set. Frank, while he was upset that his @!#$ got taken, wasn't depressed about it, because it could have been a lot worse.

that comment was out of line Chad

as for the banners... if you have a banner...return it...you dont even have to say that it was you EVEN THOUGH if i was Tim and someone emailed me and said "hey man i took a banner but i didnt realise that they costed so much, im sorry , im shipping it back to you" then i would respect that person because it takes a big person to fess up to doing something wrong and correct it like that

Perhaps the fairest thing would be to maybe place it somewhere like in north-east Kansas? That way it is in the middle of the US, making it fair to all.

Maybe a bit farther North for those Canadian members who show up...

Re: Theft at the bash!

I only met Frank briefly and he seems like a hella cool guy. He didn't deserve to get his stuff stolen and he probably didn't think anything would of happened to it at the hotel with everyone around. Honest mistake and anyone could of done it. No reason to start with the childish name calling.

Many thanks to the person that came forward to taking the large GMSC banner. I'm very releaved and glad that they had enough respect and courage to come forward about it. Just shows the overall character of this group.

Now I just need to find the three gmsc yard signs (that where out by the road) and our box of can coolies that walked off.

btw, Karo, your f'in nuts man. I owe you a beer after hearing that story....

This was only my second bash, but I had such a great time... even without a 'show car'. It is so worth the drive... and just think, if that many more people made the drive for it, it would be bigger Besides, it's once a year... and it's a time when we can all get together with our common interest and go crazy with it for a weekend. It was very nice to put faces with names.

In my opinion, I think a set location would be the thing to do, like Karo said.

And Tim, since I am all for the Bashes to continue, I am willing to help with whatever you need (I kick ass at PR) as long as I can do it from Peoria... for real, hit up my email.

Re: Theft at the bash!

I really hope that there is a Bash next year, this was my first and I had an awesome time, regardless if others say that the previous were "better".

And as far as the banners, thats a damn shame. I honestly think that a domino effect was created by one or a few people taking one. Because when I happened to be talking to PhlatCav over by where he was parked on Saturday, I noticed people taking off the banners, and to be completely honest I thought to myself then that it was cool to take one. I didn't take one though, my hands are clean . But I can understand how seeing someone else do it would cause others to take them, still doesn't make it right though and I hope that word gets around to everyone and the ones that took them have enough respect and character to return them.

That sure is a piss-ant little comment in my opinion. The dude just lost tons of money from putting on a show for us, and had stuff stolen, and you want to bring up something from a YEAR AGO? For the love, bitter much? Heck, I didn't even have my car there, I flew from Florida just to attend the show, and I still bought shirts and such just to help support the show with actual money. I guess with a comment like that, it shows how much you really appreciate the work that was put into the show. If you have money issues, take it up with him via email.

Re: Theft at the bash!

I only was able to attend the Bash one day, but I had to say it was a terrific event, and I too was disappointed in the turnout.
I hosted my own LAN party for several years and was on staff for a larger one, okay so 50-150 computer gamers is not the same thing, but a lot of the planning for an even like this is similar.
You have to worry about Venue costs, insurance (usually included in venue costs), venue is the largest cost and usually a lot more expensive than people think. This is where all the money is going and probably why GMSBC did not break even. Despite that a quality venue is important, and will help define the success of future events. If it stays the same, people will come just for the atmosphere. I only see GMSCB growing from this point onward so long as the venue does not change, and they don't try to race prices on Tim which is something else event coordinators have to worry about.
Now there is a ton of other crap that has to go along with the event besides venue.

Second major one is sponsors. I dealt with a lot of sponsors for my LAN Party events. They usually will pile on board for the first or second event, but after that you have you fight to keep them with you. If press is bad about the event, or their equipment doesn't get returned or they feel hassled, that is going to hurt your chances of getting continued commitment from them.

I had a great time at the Bash, only complaint I had is I got to my hotel Friday night and then rushed to the track and got there at 10:00pm for "Midnight" Madness and told I wasn't even allowed to enter to watch the races and had to turn around and go back.

There will ALWAYS be people complaining about event location and a billion other things when an event this large is thrown. An event coordinator usually hears and deals with more worse than good, and personally with my experience many times I felt it was just not worth it with all the BS I had to endure, just so I could provide a good time for others.
The best thing all of us can do is tell our friends about GMSCB and bring them back with us next year. GMSCB may need more advertising but the best comes by word of mouth, and I think there will be plenty of that to go around from this year’s event.
Point was made above; it would help if advertisement could be focused in other scenes like the Saturn enthusiasts. I got just as much enjoyment from checking out the Teal Aveo and SL2 than any of the Jbodies.
