i love my cavalier's. most on here know that.

do i care if anybody else loves MY cars or my car's brand or type? hell no.

only thing i care about is that they still make me happy and give me something to pass the days with.

has jbo died? i dont think so.... its certainly slowed down over the years but that's irrelevant. it just means the more passionate tuners that still come to this place every day are still around. and who would you rather talk to?

ive always wanted to ask this question to the crowd....

At what point in jbo's time period would you consider the 'best'? the first times when the platform was brand new and exiting? the middle times after people had gotten to see a lot accomplished? or the now times where gaining knowledge is as easy as hitting up the search button and getting your answer in mere minutes as opposed to "well were waiting for so and so to do it so we can get the go ahead'?

personally... i prefer now.

Your saying that a 4 cylinder engine couldn't keep up with a N/A 6 cylinder? There have been PLENTY of 4 cylinder cars that have hit 500whp and above... There are honda CRX's that have hit 1000wHP! I'll grant you the fact that they are turboed, but that is just using the technology that is available in my opinion...

Saying that a 6 cylinder engine is better than a 4 cylinder engine is *BS* It's all about where you take it... And it is FAR more satisfying to kill a V6 and V8 in a 4 cylinder... They cry more...

I liked the middle myself... Great ideas and many people came together with thoughts and ideas on how someone was going to complete an off the wall project. There was much more support and encouragement. Now, knowledge is vastly more available, but there are not as many crazy schemes and such... Not as many people asking for input... Seems like now the standard answer is a simple; "Refer to this thread" kind of response.

Don't get me wrong, it is nice having the information there to be able to do that, but it feels like it has become more of a library than a community...

and again, how much i personally love or hate my car doesnt have anything to do with the original point of the post. the poster wanted to know what happended? why was the jbo so quiet? how come it wasnt like it was before? several of us told you. because the platform is dead, they dont make them anymore so less people are getting into them. and the people who were here for sevearl years are moving on. its not about going the easy route or not being passionate. its about growing and moving on to other things. just because a person buys a diffrent car to work on doesnt mean their less passionate of a tuner. people get tired of the same thing year after year, they want change, they want something new there are endless reasons for a person to change. its not some conspiracy or that we all hate j-bodies, its just a fact that they no longer make them and less people are getting into them. people now are buying used cobalts instead of used cavaliers. the site will get smaller and smaller over the years (as long as it stays running) till its just down to a small group.

zyaaaaa

i liked the early to middle stages. when the guys were pioneering stuff, tearing into stuff to make the changes or come up with something new. now its just people kinda seeing whats been done and doing the same thing, there is less innovation it seems and just more copying. plus back then you could get answers quick because there were tons of people always on. you put a post up and the next day there was 30 replies and your post was on page 3. now it seems u put something up and 3 days later it has 4 replies and its still on page 1.

idk i guess im just not much of a fan of 'innovation'.... i like it but i like to do things i know will work and have been successful for others. i dont see anything wrong with that. but i am more of a fan of rare parts and old skool stuff than absolutely anything... and with that said thats my 'dare to be different because nobody else really can be because the parts are unavailable or low production' side coming out. lol

Hi,

I'm new here and I don't find any problems. I've found a lot of help and answers.
In life, Things change over time, different people, different attitudes and believe it or not, YOU change as life molds you, it may not be as obvious to you as it is to others. Also, you can never go home again. It will be different no matter how much you desire it to be the same, it's just is different.

Once again what does the car I drive have to do with anything? I had the same opinion and said the same thing when I had both of my cavs. Your gonna sit there and talk about your Trans Am and then tell me I took I the easy way out ? lol. My "easy way out" involved selling and parting out my car to pay off a brand new car in 3 months. My "easy way out" is a 1.5 Liter 105 hp cheap, reliable, safe, good on gas, 4 door hatch that's versatile and has tons of room and a 10 year warranty. Not that its any of your business (or even relevant in all this) but I've gotten away from cars as a hobby, not from J's specifically. I got rid of the coupes I played with and moved on with my life. My Honda is lowered with wheels, gets 39 mpg in the city and is one of the slowest cars on the road. It's not the easy way out, hell its not anyway anywhere, it has nothing to do with anything and it's not a car I bought to mod.

The fact that simply saying I bought a Honda is seen as taking the easy way out plays exactly into this whole argument about the Js

its easier to be diffrent when there is nothing available and no production because it forces the creative types to do it themselves. those guys have allot more rare stuff then the brands that just walk into a store and say give me a brand x hood with a brand y bumper with a brand j wheel.

I like my J-body for s couple reasons- the DD was really cheap and is reliable- although horrible slow.
I like my Z cause it was a cheap VIN to build off of

They really arent anything special to start with. People who modify neons, escorts, civics, golfs etc. all feel the same way about their cars as we feel about ours- but most of them bought them originally just because they were cheap transportation. Hard to stay excited about a platform when most of the vehicles are owned by people who are tight on money and dont do much of anything crazy. Also makes it hard to gain any respect for the platform when there are many times more hacked together cars then well built and thoughtfully planned out ones.

Enjoy your car, stop worrying about what anyone else thinks- and definitely dont rag on someone else for building a car of a different brand, it kills the comeraderie in the scene.

Bump to the stock sunfire....

150hp at 2700lbs roughly?
Just in comparison, the stock NT Talon (Mitsu Eclipse) has 140hp and weights 200 pounds more...
For some reason it is more widely accepted that the eclipse / talon is a tuner car even though a stock 2.4 has more horsepower and less weight...

I grant the fact that talon/eclipse had turbo options which makes them a little more power freindly in the long run, but still...

Just something to think about...

Try 120 hp for a 2.2 which is by far a more common motor. Which really doesnt respond to much besides a full build.

the talon is the brother to the eclipse, albeit the bastard brother. with an eclipse you can go down to your local fast foor store and probalby find parts for the eclipse there. theres a huge diffrence in why they have a larger following.

To the OP,as far as I'm concerned, there will always be a J fan base and of course the diehards but what I still can't figure out(and probably never will) is the mass amount of infighting that goes on here. It's been discussed before but I find it hiliarious that people's attitudes are like"My cavalier or sunfire is better than yours"or for that matter the ex-J owners that still lurk here, not to help or give advice, but to try and prove how more intelligent they are or jump on someone for their opinion. Why is it that alot of other car sites have members that help out and don't see a lot of infighting on their sites?

And i'll just stick to outrunning Eclipse's in my sunflower for now...... but to be honest.... I was looking for a GSX when I bought my Fire.

My next tuner car will end up being a RWD V-8.... but there's something about modding 4-bangers thats apealing.
