no offense taken. i also have a little saturn sedan, oh which i thought was a j body, but is in fact a z body. i don't post here much now. i was just wanting to learn about different *GM* cars. i'm also no familiar with FWD and sport compacts. overall i haven't been impressed but i am not trying to come to this site and bring negativity. i help run a mustang 4cyl/v6/v8/big block site also.

I had the new exhaust system installed the other day. I had a new downpipe made up with 2.5" pipe back to a new high flow cat. 2.5" pipe going back to a new y-pipe and then out to 2 40 series flowmaster mufflers. I only got to drive the car back from the exhaust shop (more on this later). The car sounds awsome, I love it. It is a cross between an old camero and a new mustang GT. We tried it with-out the cat at first and it was just too loud for everyday street driving. It is actaully pretty quiet at idle but when you come on to it is still very loud. Before the exhaust went on the o2 sensor was reading lean on the scanner and my gauge. I haven't scanned it yet (Monday) but the gauge wasen't showing lean on the way home so I think I might of fixed that issue, hopefully it fixed my timing issues too.

I couldn't really drive it very hard on the way back to the shop. The first test drive caused the engine to move back about 2mm and the axle was rubbing up against the oil filter. I would get about 4 kms and the oil filter would let go. It took three filters to get back to the shop. In between jacking the car up and changing the filter I got to drive. The car feels great to drive, coming onto the highway I can merge up to 100kms by barely touching the gas. I was in fourth gear at 100kms and I gave it about 1/2 throtle and saw 4-5psi on the boost gauge and it pulled really well. It felt about the same as my old 2.4 on the bottle (100 shot) on the but dyno but we all know that doesn't mean anything.

I have two options now with the oil filter. I can get a relocation kit or make my own. I am going to try on Monday to fab something up with the original filter housing. Once I get this stupid little issue out of the way I can go and really play I should have some video up soon.
James, I`d opt for a relocation kit, makes it tons better in the end and would for sure be in a better place than it is right now.
The sub-frame (K-member) was custom made from 2" square steel tubing for my car. If your car was ever in an accident even a minor one the sub-frame might have to be built differently.

Karo: You have mail.

So hopefully by the end of this week I will have some seat time in the car and some video's to share with everyone.

The best thing to do would be to either call or email the shop and talk to Brad. He would be the one you would want to talk to about a price for that. The number again at the shop is (902) 876-0769 or you can email him at doublez@eastlink.ca
This is killing me!

I usually don't visit this forum but I've been checking this thread every other day since it was started.

I've been debating a radical swap in my car for a long time and thought I was dead set on a full H.O. 2.3 swap with an intercooled T3/T4 setup. But, this has really got me thinking... I owned a 98 Regal with that setup in it and it was a great engine even after 115K on it. Now you've got me thinking what it would be like to be the first 3.8 S/C'd sedan...

I hate you...

Hi Ive been reading this post over and over agian. This Swap totaly awesome and then some. I have question I know that they put that 3.8 in the regals, but how many years from when to when. I also know that they put them in Bonevills, Reatas, and in some olds cars, if any body knows any other cars or years this motor was in please let me know. One more question will this 3.8 bolt up to a regular getrag like ones in stock cavis, the one in this post was a munce trans (I dont know the difference soory) I would like to find a cavi to do this swap, Im not touching my 03 cavi I just bought it well ant info would be useful, thanks

I'd also like to know.

Do the non-s/c 3.8 have a forged bottem-end?

What should I expect to pay for the engine 3.8(500), s/c(500), wiring harness, and ECM/PCM?
98' 2.2 cavalier, It may be slow, but I'm looking to change that.

Well looks like I am going to have to wait a little bit longer yet. We got the oil filter relocation kit in along with the new filter housing but we ran into another problem. The lines for it will not clear the lower engine mount. We are going to have to redesign the lower engine mount to allow the lines to clear. Hopefully we will get this done sometime in the coming week and then I can finally drive the car. The suspense is killing me, I swear when it is all ready to go with no issues I am going to drive for days.

Adam: You can find the series 2 supercharged 3800 in the 96-04 Bonneville SSEI, 97-03 regal GS, 97-03 Grand Prix GTP, 97-?? Olds 88 LSS. Those are the cars I can think of off the top of my head, it is probably available in a few other cars as well.

Sonar: Neither engine has forged internals although the supercharged version is much stonger than the N/A version. The only thing the same between the two versions is the block and the crank. As far as price it all depends on the avalibility in your area and the condition of the engine. I have seen prices from $1500can up to $5000can. The best thing to do is call your local scrap yards and see what they have.
Raven,

I've been a member here for a while and most the time I just read, but tonight I'm on a post frenzy... I gotta tell ya that you're doin some awesome work. It's cool to see people taking big steps and trying new @!#$ out like that. Not many people have the patience and ability to swap an engine like that in their car w/ all that custom work. I just wanted to say good job, and I can't wait to see those vids!

Erik
