Raven I am also running into the same problem on the gauges . The only major problem I have is the service engine and check gauges are on . other than that everything else seems to work alright . Later I am going to upgrade the gauges in the car because of the lack of a speed limiter . Which I am going to install Autometer in mine , so for now I can live with the service engine light .

If the gauges won't work with mine then we will either use a GTP cluster or do something custom with autometer gauges. The only light that I really really want to work is the check engine light. I want to know right away if the computer picks up something that is wrong with the engine.
That is a very good explination of the problem. I never even thought of something like that being the problem. So can you get the processors and stuff out of a gtp cluster and wire them into your stock cluster? I guess that would probably be more work than just swapping in a gtp cluster though. Whatever happens keep us posted and good luck. By the way, great job man.

What's a Z-24? It's like a Z-28, only 4 less.
We opened up the cluster today and it is one solid circuit board. We're just going to swap in a GTP cluster. Much easier

sounds easier that way, messing with mounting bolts instead of curcuits,
take pretty pics for us,
also you will get rid of the sucky 110 mph speedometer that way (or KM in your land)
next toy; a used accustic, i miss having one.
Since your using the gtp cluster, what is left of the original wiring harness now? It seems like the only original wiring should just be for some of the sensors and the lights.

Pretty much..
I will get a list together and let you know what is left to the original harness.
James, use my method, all autometer, I believe I did send u my custom dash pics? It gets expensive, but its worth it in the end for sure, and looks so damn sexy!
The shifter just came in!!!
It's test drive day
I will get some video and pics of the maden voyage.
Hell yeah! Can't wait to see how it turns out.
J-body of Kentucky
YES!! Ive been waiting for this post, WOOP!!!
Well we got it out for a drive today.... all I can say is HOLY F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This car is retarded
hmmm....where to begin.
We took it out to a back road to have some fun with it. On the way out we kept it under 2600rpm and it drives really smooth at that speed. We turned the corner and gave it a little punch to 1/2 throtle and it lit up both tires up instantly.
From a standing start there is very bad wheel hop, (no @!#$ we were expectling that
) some new bushings and some practice should take care of that. When you punch it from a 30km/hr roll it instantly smokes, no shreads both tires! Instant smoke, there is no bogging of any kind. The power is there as soon as you hit it. The clutch grabs instantly and very hard. It is incredibly fast to rev to redline, you just hit it and it is time to shift. On the second run at the end of second gear we blew the accessory belt
Let me tell and show you what happened....
We shut the car down and got out to take a look. Because of the crazy amounts of torque the upper rad support where the top two dog bone mounts are attached to was bent on both sides. Now this rad support has already been strengthened from behind with angle bar welded and bolted to the mounts and extended to the frame of the car, guess that is not going to be good enough. We limped it back to the shop, but with very very big grins on our faces
. Upon further inspection we saw that the motor actually rocked back about an inch from the torque. The accessory belt came in contact with the frame in the rear and blew apart. The tranny hit the lower subframe, the air conditioning delete pulley hit the under side of the lower rad hose and we bent the throtle cable bracket when it hit the front of the master brake cyclinder. The torque and power this engine creates is unbelivable. Words really can't describe.
Here are some pics of what happened...
Here is a pics of the right side upper rad support...
Here is a pic of the left side upper rad support
Here is a pic of where the tranny came down and hit the lower sub-frame...
We are now going to make another engine mount for the back side of the motor so that it doesn't squat down. We're going to make up some braces for the upper rad support from the back side of the rebar to strengthen that up. Anti-torque bars are going to be installed from the lower control arms to the frame underneath. We are also having some programming issues with the PCM. It is still throwing an automatic code that was suppose to be removed when it was custom tuned and it is showing the timing is set back 31 degrees so there is more power yet to come when we get that sorted out. I am just waiting on an email from DHP to see what we are going to do about the PCM, might have to send it back to them to be reprogrammed again.
All this and I haven't even hit the nitrous yet.
I am going to be running the biggest slicks I can get under her at the track. I can't wait to see what that feels like
I can honestly say that I have never felt this kind of power before. I use to run a 100 shot of nitrous on my old 2.4 and that was not even close to this. I can't wait for the summer to come now, when we get all the bugs worked out of it this is going to one hell of a fun car to drive
I wasen't able to get any good video of it. We thought we would get more runs out of it. But don't worry as soon as we have everything sorted out and strengthened up I will get lots.
i can't even imagine the parts that will be snapping once you get slicks on her! unbelievable work man! keep us posted!

I'm getting new axles from the drive shaft shop so they should be good. Just have to see how the tranny holds up.
Someone has a heavy foot... lol
im not exactly surprised that radiater frame piece was never meant to be a mounting point,
though it does really suck but im glad you had some big fun,
hope you wrap it up soon.

We knew that this rad support wasn't going to be strong enough in the begging and that is why we reinforced it with angle bar to the frame. It bent this too so that is not going to be strong enouth either. We are now going to make another mount for the back of the engine and put two braces from the backside of the front rebar to the back of the upper rad support, that should hold it.
Try the big block trick. Use 3" thick chain and bolt it to the bottom of the engine and the other end to the firewall. this should keep the motor from twisting so much. Also try putting another crossbar under the tranny and add another mount so that the tranny wount move so much. Also try NOT flooring the gas on your first voyage
. What is going on as far as the gauges are concerned? I know they aren't top priority right now but I'm just curios as to how that end of the project is going.

lol, who said anything about flooring it? That was at 3/4 throtle
We haven't gone WOT yet. The engine didn't really twist, it squated down in the back. We are going to build another mount in the back of the engine that will connect to the back of the block and the lower rear part of the sub-frame so that the engine will not squat back. We're also going to run two braces from the backside of the rebar to the upper rad support (just behind the mounts) to give that some more strength. I should have some pics of the new mount and bracing up sometime this week for you guys to take a look at.
The gauges will not work, we took the cluster apart and it is one circuit board. We are going to swap in a cluster from a GTP and rewire it to the PCM. That should be in this thursday.
Thats awesome Raven!!! Congrats on your first maiden voyage... I'm sure that you can't wait until all the bugs are worked out.
You are seriously making me rethink my engine swap plans!!! Thanks a whole hell of alot... LOL!!!

I'm starting to wonder just how horribly this car is going to handle corners in wet conditions. I think you just made a non-streetable Cav Raven. I might rethink this whole swap now since my car needs to get me through winters and such.
