I hope the car is road-worthy by next week, I should be getting the exhaust put on next thursday but with Burn Rd so close by who needs exhaust Brad's cam takes video to I think so I will get some video of it and post it up.

It was good to get out, and see all you guys again. I missed just going to the shop and hanging out. Of course, watching the beast grow now makes it just a little more interesting I'm back in town again, but this week I'm working in Elmsdale, Shubinacadie (sp?) and Dartmouth on Friday, and Monday I'm in Hali somewhere. lol. Hopefully between work and other things I can get out late Friday to see how the car is progressing again

Tell you this much, when you get some good video footage of your car, I want to do a car video to it. I've been playing a lot with some video editing programs, and I've got a bit of a nack now. lol. Hope to get back out to Double Z to show you guys some of the videos I did. Turned out good, but not the best. But I am trying to improve Now I just need a good video camera to take the footage, and lots of it!

lmao...I think GM underrates them (probably doesn't want people building cavaliers that will take down their flag @!#$ vettes ) The ferio guys have been using these trannys for years without any problems. These trannys have been bolted up to V8 with 500+hp without any problems. Even one of our own (blowncavy, who was the first to put a 3800 in his 2nd gen) has been using one for almost 5 years without any problems.
sorry but it's not GM that give this rating it's GETRAG. go to getrag.com. i'm sure that it can hold up to 280 hp and 280 lbs*ft but i doubt that it can be reliable with more than 300.. if ti work ...man i'm impressed

good luck and if it work, i think i'll take the 7 hour trip :p

Well I'm really not to worried about it. blowncav has been running 470+ tq to the wheels for over 4 years and his has held up. That and I haven't heard one bad thing from all the ferio boards that I have been on researching this. Belive me, I did my research before getting into this. If not well then we will have to come up with something else.
How much more does the engine weigh? did you have any problems with the front of your car sagging, need different springs?
The engine weighs about 200lbs more. I thought I was going to have that problem but the front end only came down by maybe 1/4 of an inch. I am using spring springs and they seem to be holding the extra weight no problem.
I'm sure the tranny will hold some power. The Getrag Muncie tranny's are pretty decent, and I've seen similar articles on bolting up 3800's to them for Fiero's. And if it isn't strong enough, well..... Could always get another one And I'm sure someone out there can strengthen them somehow. If one blows, it would be easy to determine the weak link in them too

I think since this is the first swap of it's kind (a 3800 SC, with a 5spd in a 3rd gen), I'm sure there will be hiccups along the way with it. Not problems, mind you. Debugging for the computer litterate I myself would never assume that in doing something like this, that everything would work 100% the first time it's driven. We all hope of course Meanwhile, I'm sure nothing big will go wrong. All factors were taken into consideration and the swap was carefully thought about and planned out. Double Z and Nathan did an incredible job doing this, and from looking at it myself, I can't see any big issues arise.

Of course, talking to Raven about it for the better part of an afternoon helped convince me of the steps taken to prevent any problems from arising. I know I had concerns about certain things, but the whole install was thought out pretty well by everyone and when it's done, it will be a lethal weapon for the Honda boys at the track

Can't wait to see the dyno numbers, and the track times. I just wish I owned the damn car, because I would be hella-proud of it
I don't care how many times I say it, congrats Raven and Double Z. The car is twisted. Wicked.. and just plain Sick!

Sorry about dissing you about the tranny, but the muncie you're talking about is it the one that is stock on the 2k+ models??? if not, where did you get it?

Raven, man you've just realized what i dream about in the last 3 years as a futur project when i get another daly driver. You have made quite a good job by the picture you posted. Do you have any other pic? i'll send you an e-mail for the address.

raven wrote:There is no need to redo the internals yet. Every company that I have talked to that makes performance parts for this engine say that they are good till about 500hp no problem. The fastest 3800 powered car in north america is still running a stock bottom end. The internals are all forged right from the factory. I am planning on rebuilding it next winter and redoing the internals at that time.

Actually James, the GTP internals are not forged... I know this for a fact.
If I understood things correctly, it's the one they used with the 2200 series engine, before the Ecotec's came out. I could be wrong of course.

What I was saying was when I was out at Double Z, I'm sure Raven told me it was the Getrag out of a 2000 J-Body with the 2200 engine. And the tranny is stock. It's just not stock for the year that his car is, which is a 98 (Which would be the Isuzu tranny).

as for the fuel pump question. You need to upgrade to a GTP fuel pump because it is a dual stage pump that is required when you use a 3800sc.
