apparently about 130% of the asshats on this site have a prejudice agains the LN2

yea, its the weakest motor
yea it has an ancient valvetrain
yea there aren't too many parts available for it

but you know what? if you build it up IT WILL/CAN BE FAST

dare I say faster than a twin cam?!?
GOD FORBID anyone EVER SAY THAT AN LN2 CAN BEAT A TWIN CAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

any stock cavalier is SLOW AS BALLS

a motor swap to a twin cam is not the end all to the LN2... despite what everyone thinks, its not a helpless engine

However I'll admit you can't make it much faster with just bolt ons... but hey like I said, you're starting with a deficit with pushrods and 2 valves per cylinder...

but its not a complete lost cause and it aggrevates the living hell out of me when people are like "its still an OHV" UP YOURS douche WE BOTH DRIVE CAVALIERS!!!!!

But yes I agree with PJ. If your a fool who thinks that the 2.2 OHV can't be made fast. Everyone should realize that we are in the age of forced induction...with that alone can make any "weak" motor ungodly fast with the right person making it.

The sunbirds had 160 ponies stock with a single over head cam and a turbo in the GT model. I had a SE with out forced induction (2.0L, 109 ish) but still that engine was rough. (though it had 100K+ miles on it the time I had it)

But I still like my eco. Very smooth. That sunbird would raddle you teath out after 5 grand.

Though my 87 z24 had the 2.8L pushrod v6. That was a realy torquey engine. Though the 3spd auto it was connected to was a POS.

Ehhh, I already have a good dose of twin cams under my belt! Working on a friends Eco right now.

He has alot of weight reduc than the other cav's I've messed with so it should be interesting! NwCavi I'm talking about you haha!

i drove a ...96 2.2 ohv man i loved it at the time ...great motor never had probs with it in fact its still goin strong .... but i love my eco ... but in the end there both cavies

that was one of my dreams at first. to build a OHV to shut everyone up. alas, i'm poor.

I'll probably get flamed but I believe a LN2 could be quick as long as it doesnt have the 3spd. Only option that would make it fall flat on its face.

any dohc motor is always gonna be stronger than a ohv.. just like a 5L motor will always beat a 2L motor with the same mods.. the better engineered motor WILL win. i mean common its an air pump its gonna flow what it can, no more but i am here with you guys too!.. i love my slow 3spd 2200!...

^^^i duno about all that.....pretty much all the mussle car engines were low-tech pushrod engines, and well they would smoke most of the hightech honda engines out there today....


anyway much love for the 2.2 OHV, ive seriously considered putting ALOT of time and money into it just to shut people up, but honestly i dont have the knowledge or time being in college to do it

I am one of the people trying to see just how high the 2.2 ohv can go. I will go all the way, but with the knowledge that if i did the same thing to a ld9, it would be faster. Alot of it is in the engineering.

They can be built up very nicely.

Stock for stock, of course the LN2s are slower than the 2.4s but now and days you can engineer ANY motor to be fast. All it takes is knowledge, smart decisions, a little technology & some boost. If a SOHC Honda motor can have over 300 HP on boost, so can the LN2s.

....heheheh, im with ya, flying squirrel. tho the "fight" between the two isnt really appropriate. if people wanna fight, get into vale tudo (check out team-roc.com, events, evt2, photos...that was the event that crippled me, got submitted with a kimura after i won my first fight, shoulder problems since, heheheh...but this is irrelevant..sorry for the jack.) but cars should be LOVE, its a hobby. if some guy has a faster car than my 2.2, good for him, ill not lose any sleep over it. i am building my cavalier just as a hobby, something that makes me happy, a way i can blow some spare cash. i like my 2.2ohv, wouldnt trade it for anything.

And for the record, you would spend about the same amount of money upgrading a LN2 compared to the 2.4 or ECO (maybe more).
