Got the conversion done, bad thing is that I have bad 2200 coils.. I swapped the ones I have with whinins and car fired right up, so tomorrow im heading to Jegs to get these msd blaster coils so I can install those.. Car fired right up, I used to have hard starts with this built motor, not anymore

So I had an idea...

BAM! This'll connect the stock 2.4 harness to the 2.2 ICM. Apparently TwistedMotorsport found an actual plug that works too, but I had a spare ICM and thought...why not...

that works too!!!

But for the Team Green setup we want a setup that is non destructive in case you decide to sell your car as well as being a plug and play affair

The only problem with that is that a new ICM costs $185 from Autozone and are very hard to find at junk yards. its kind of an expensive way to do it. Why not just splice into the ICM harness and solder the connections and shrink wrap them?

^^^again, I was bored, had an extra ICM. Not trying to say this is the best way to do it, obviously it isn't. Just getting the ball rolling, getting an idea out there...

seems like alot of work to just run aftermarket coils, if your going to do all that why not just run a full msd box and get a real gain

what do you mean alot of work? its so simple i could teach a 5yr old to do it! not all of us NEED an msd box, especially now that HPT is around

um, HP tuners controls advance, not spark power, big difference there, the msd puts out several times the voltage to the coils than stock, its sort of like an amp in a car stereo

sure you can run the speakers off the head unit but they are so much better off an amp

Hey guys, I just installed my MSD coils with this setup and umm my car wont turn over lol. I know for a fact it works because I had WHININS 2200 coils on it yesterday.. I wanted to use MSD, so after 96.00 I installed them and it wont turn over Ill eat my own words if we need the MSD interface module to make these MSD coils work.

But in the directions for the MSD interface module it has wires coming from it to hook up to the DIS-2 Ignition.. If thats the case, why would we need these interface modules?

from what i have read, if you have the 96-98 set up, you will need the interface, and 99+ wont need them as long as they dont use the dis-2

GRR... 99-2002 2.4L owners are lucky son of bitches...

for 99 owners, no EGR and can install SC without crazy mods like 99pcm swap...

for 00-02 owners, can get SC and PCM reflash....

NOW.... this. All 96-98 peeps gets shafted and having to get "extra" parts just to make stuff work.

DAMN YOU GM!

if your car won't even turn over, then its not the coils problem since turning the motor over has nothing to do with ignition..
check your battery, and parasitic draw, sounds like a dead battery to me

well.. its 96-98 2.2l as this conversion comes from a 2.2l!
so when you go to the junkyard, grab a set of 99+

I grabbed 01 2200 coils and wires from the yard. The coils are crap, thats why I got the msd coils..

Also like I said, yesterday Mat who has this conversion let me use his 2200 coils and the car started RIGHT up.. So my wiring is fine, its exactly how Mats setup is. My battery is fully charged, I took it off the charger right before I started the car up..

My thing is, that for the 95-97 2.2 owners they are the only ones that need the interface module.. 98+ dont need that..

But I have the 01 2200 wires and coils and the damn thing wont work with the MSD's, why would I need the module?.. Damn I better not have wasted 96 bucks lol.
