we havnt had alot of time to work on these lately, spring comming up and all, we've been trying to finish up our own cars.

I dont think Tom's had any problems with engine noise.

Yeah we all have been busy... Im in the process of building a kit for a particular member as a "test" unit, after that i will figure out the cheapest way to offer the kit.

Also im going to attempt HO cams with the msd cam sync.

I have a 2000 Z24 for which I'm having a turbo motor built which will hpoefully be done by the end of July but I want to do this conversion now and I'll be buying the MSD coils but what pn do I need, also who has the plug and play harness and how much is it? I plan on running the MSD DIS II box and HP Tuner software, are there any issues to look out for,? Also If I want to just do the coil packs and plug wires now then install the DIS II box when I put the new turbo motor in will I have to change or modify any of the wiring ( as in buying and splicing in the MSD modules )?
Sorry for all of the questions but I only want to do this job once and don't want to through good money after bad so I welcome any suggestions or changes etc, thanks in advance for your help.

Part number 121-8224 from Jegs..

I believe if you use the MSD DIS 2 box you need the interface module for the MSD blaster coils to work..

I'd be down for whatever you guys end up puting out. I'm only a few hours north of you; so whenever you get something together I'd be willing to drive down there to pick it up and take a bunch of pics of the install and whatnot. If that sounds alright let me know.

cavmattz24, I just noticed you are from Eau Claire. I'm moving there this summer to go to UW-Eau Claire. I have been trying to find some JBO members around the area. We will have to meet up sometime!

Also regarding system whine. I have a slight whine from having my power wire damn near touching my spark plug wires... I plan to move it but its not a big deal atm i have bigger things to do

Shoot if you guys can just make me a plug & play harness which will allow me to use the MSD coils I can get the 98+ icm & coilpack.
By the way Casper Electronics has a connector kit for 95 + GM cars which supposedly has every type of connector currently in use from the factory, Jeg's sells the kit, I'm thinking about buying it when I get my O2 simulators.

its the cruise bracket from the 2.2/2200, not sure what year, has to be cut/new hole drilled to work though...

Ordering up the parts for the first kit im selling to a certain member... (that means were closer to having the kits for everyone).

Looks like target price will be greater then 130 but not too much higher for the harness plus coil adapters. (no coils, plugs or wires included) basically this kit would give you flexibility to pick your coils and wires. Plugs are optional but recomended with a stronger spark. So you want colder plugs. Oh and all parts will be new with the exception of the 2.2 icm/coil bracket.

Some older pics of the original mod to the ignition.

It's ironic that I posted the above setup about 2 years ago stating how this mod was so much better than the factory coil over plug setup.
I was ragged to no end saying that I had no proof of the mod, no dyno charts, and only a butt dyno feel for what I thought was a better ignition.

Now I see this thread and feel like I've been screwed for an idea that when all is said and done, proven to be a good thing.

What's up with that?
I paid no more than $125 for parts from the junkyard for the basic setup and have since added the MSD coils with an MSD DIS-2 ignition system.

Sure, I wasn't the only one to have done this but when I did this mod, had no clue something like this was even thought of.
I completely thought of the idea on my own.
No one helped and did a complete rewiring of the orginal 2.2 ICM to achieve a base for the coils to work with my setup.
I was joyous with the results thinking that it would help out the fellow j-body members with a how-to, and all information on how to do it but got flamed bigtime.
I've since enjoyed the benefits of this modification and remained quiet about how useful it really is.

I'm sorry for breaking into this thread but felt that I needed to vent a bit on something that didn't seem justified at the time it happened.
Flame me for my post here and I'm not trying to plague the progress of what is being done here.
But I feel justice is not served here when a person finds a good thing, is flamed for it because there was not "proof" given for the modification, and then see the same modification being presented as a proven mod to help with better spark, mileage, etc, and making a profit.

I'm not a crybaby and anyone that has known me over the years knows that I'm a cool customer with things.
Thank you for listening and wish this a success to all.

If anything, I'm glad that things are going good with what I'm seeing but really hate the fact that I was treated like sh*t when I posted it on the org about 2 years ago.
I also know that there is an easier way to do this ignition mod and reading some of the thread see how it's coming along.
I'm just saddened that I was downtrodden for having an idea that is now accepted.

I hope I'm not banned now for making this post and to TwistedMotorsports, you should know that I DID NOT STEAL the idea from anybody.
I found out that it was already done only by the individuals telling me that it had already been done and I wasn't the first to have thought this up.

Now that I've read that certain people hate me because they think I stole an idea, they're completely misinformed.
I'm an hones J-body enthusiast.
I help fellow J-body enthusiasts and bend over backwards to help.
I'm really sorry if anyone does think bad of me but that is not the case.

Again, good luck with this and hope this takes off with success.
I've had this setup for two years now and have not had one bit of problems with the setup.
Ultra reliable and with the MSD DIS-2 and MSD coils, have more than enough spark.
I'm still using the full .060 gap on my plugs whereas I was previously using .045 with the stock ignition setup.
To those that had this idea originally, thanks for helping out the J-body community.
Just like me finding this thread out of boredome on a Friday night, don't know what's happening until you actually read up on it.

This thread was a big surprise for me and an eye opener.

To Brian (SpeedRacerZ) and Wrench Monkey, thanks for sticking up for me and the credits you've given me for my idea.
But I was not the originator of this.
I never claimed this.
I just showed this to people when the subject came up but never took any credit for an original mod.
Everything I do I chronicle it so that others can do the same and happened to have done this with the ignition system.

Just like the aluminum control arms from the Alero and Grand Am. The information was out there with a somewhat how to but to me, wasn't enough information to really do the mod with the little bit of information that was given about doing the control arms.
So I went ahead and did the same mod but gave a full how to on doing it from beginning to end, and with using tools that anyone can use to do the control arm conversion. Yup, it was done by others but I made it so everyone could benefit from it.
I did this for others to follow and not for personal gain.

What was original to me with the ignition was the way it was done and took 2 weeks to figure out the wiring and electrical connections to use the 2.2 ICM module (gutted) as a template (coil bracket) for the coils to interface with the 2.4 ICM.

I've now read the entire thread and am pleased that this is taking off.
Best of luck to all with this.

I want no ill feelings from anyone about me so please, I don't want my good name to go down as a thief or liar.

Good luck Wrench Monkey.
Good luck all.

^^I remember your original post, and this was always a mod that was on my list to do. Sadly I never got around to it when I still had my car, but I definitely saw the merit in this mod. As for the original flamers, that's what the org is, the negative have always been more vocal than the supportive sadly.

can you use the 95-97 2.2 ICM or not to do this swap? or does it have to be 2200?

I just did speedracers beater car coil setup. Ive got it down to 1 hour from start to finish err start of the car. I know that for all that will be looking at getting these from us it will use the msd adapter box instead of the 2.2 icm for reliability.

Misnblu, your instructions really helped we appreciate it. Deffinately dont want any hard feelings from any members. so i try to give as much credit to anyone who has created instructions for this.
