Who votes I tack on an extra hanger? Right now there's the muffler straps, and the one hanger by the gas tank/driver rear wheel.

Winter build engine:

Man, Talk about ported...

Dual valve springs? What does that mean, there's a yellow (retainer?) on the left, and blue on the right for each cylinder. I need to ger more info on this valvetrain, all I know is that stock heads have single springs...

Got the intake pipe on, and most of the signal lines.
Hahn says to get the FMU signal from the comp. housing. BEGI says to get the signal from the manifold.... I'm confused.

To Do:
-Injector harness
-Run wide-band and fuel pressure sender wires.
-Boost gauge line.
-Put the charge pipes on.
-Drive down to summit and buy some NGK's

Roofy, yeah I don't see the need for the FMU, but it's there and it makes a good spot for my sending unit. Plus I wouldn't have a regulator without it. if anything, I'll just use it as an adjustable regulator down the road.... once I figure out HPT, still haven't even installed the software yet.

Hopefully I get to fire it up tomorrow, I'm calling it a night.

Those look like Supertech springs and retainers. Kinda hard to tell from the pic though.

I can get more pics of the springs and whatnot tomorrow for you. I do know that its a patriot head, he claims stage 2, but he had a shop order all the parts and put the engine together.

Well, I got it all together!

Wired up the injector harness, put the charge pipes on, double checked everything, then on with starting the thing.

Went into HPT and changed my injector constant to .0597 then a couple different ones. Ended up at .0771 and it was idleing... at 500rpm and rich. Like I could shoot flames out of my exhaust with a lighter rich.

Set the base pressure to 43-48ish, then it was going all over the place when I gave it some gas. I don't know why the thing's idleing at 500. I tried setting the FP all the way down to 18psi, and still rich. I'm going to try a constant for 1000cc injectors, and see if that changes anything tomorrow.

It was bogging at 500, obviously. Shot me a low idle DTC. I let it run to heat it up while giving it a little throttle to hold it around 1500-1800, and it seemed to not be bogging, but still off the scale rich.... warmed it up to operating temp, then let off the gas, it wanted to die. Tried to let it down slow, but it eventually just wasn't having it. Did not run the boost gauge yet, but that has little to do with idle.

I'm stumped.

raise your idle in HPT so it stops bogging.

and a boost signal from the compressor housing or intake manifold doesn't matter, they see the same signal essentially. Only difference being the manifold is post intercooler, so the air is more dense, but at idle that shouldn't be effected.

So is it normal for it to run super rich at idle then? I did manage to rev it to 4500, and the afr hit 10.5. That was base FP 45psi, then at 4500 it dipped to 20.

No its not normal...

Id re check your injector constant calculations.
Re: Eric's Build Log - Hahn stage 2 + extras

Old flow/new flow * old constant

24 / 60 * .178 = .0712

I tried that constant, and I then I tried a constant I found on HPT forums, for someone with an l61 and #60 to set it to .0597 witha 1 bar, apparently that's correct.

The lower the constant, the less the pulsewidth is essentially right? I have it set to .0597, changed the idle speed to 1500 at operating, 2k at warmup, and it is idleing normal. I also copied a VE table from someone who had the same relative setup, there VE offset was 100%, and the table was well... a table.

Copied both of those, and flashed it. The car now idles at 900-1100 :/ Still rich, but on the chart rich. 16-18.
Managed to drive it around the block and give it a 1-2 pull while watching FP and AFR (not logging yet.) full load the AFR dips to 10.5, and the FP shoots to 80.

Is there a way at all to set the FMU for minimal gain, so I see pressure between 40 and 55 no matter what the load is? I want to keep it, as I don't have the money to buy an adjustable FPR, unless someone wants to trade :/

Holy crap. I'm gonna take a few days to do some reading. 16+ is lean not rich... and that's bad. If I don't know this I shouldn't be messing with my car.

On the head the spring retainers do not look like the ones i got with my Supertechs. I'd bet that it is just a Patriot Stage 2 head with a set of Comp cams in it.

Well then I guess that's that. I'm taking those pictures off to lower the 56k guys haha. I'll get to that build after this cars running smooth.

As a side note. Anyone who actually still has 56K in this day and age deserves the severe lag.

Haha, well then I'll put it on my super long to-do list.

I'm migrating to the tuning forum for a little while, then I'll update here with some pics of everything.

Maybe I'm not migrating yet. Turbo squeal under load. Video tomorrow, then Pressure testing charge pipes.

I'm betting its the friggen manifold gasket that I re used, and didn't copper coat it. I copper coated everything but that bleh.

Turbo Squeal 1
The car is not at operating temp yet, I'm concerned about not seeing much movement in the waste-gate actuator, but that may just be how it is.

Turbo Squeal 2
Warmed up, shortest video, best instance of my weird noise

Messing with the FMU
Me being a retard - watch to get into the mind of a kid with no idea how signal lines and check valves work.
Trying to trick the fmu to be an adjustable FPR, and other things

Also, I figured out that if the needle valve barb is capped, it doesn't work.
I check valve on both barbs, and the fp is 20 at full vac and 50 at 0kpa
Any boost, it sits right at 50

Cyl 1 & 3 misfire.

I may have wired the harness wrong, unlikely. Most likely I got the wiring at the computer wrong, I was using MS to run fuel and had to reconnect the injector wires at the ecm, was in a rush. I dunno, hopefully thats the cause of the wretched noise.

Hmm swapped coil packs and icm and it's idling and running great. That's weird, it was working perfect before.

UPDATE:

Leaky manifold gasket -- good turbo.
The thing takes off at 4k
NGK's coming in by thursday.
Still looking for creative ideas on where to put boost gauge... This looks nice -the defroster vent, except it will only defrost my pass. side of the windshield lol

Need help with this:

Yeah, it got quieter after I tightened down the exhaust bolts.
New manifold gasket and turbo gasket going in and that should be that.

The one bolt on the turbo inlet actually backed out after driving last night and was just chillin half threaded on.

The Hahn manifold is so hard to get a wrench on the bottom bolts, so any advice will be appreciated.
My plan so far is to pull the turbo/manifold/o2 housing off all at once. The downpipe flange is an aluminum gasket... reusable.

Well actually I don't know. The 4 inlet bolts were easier to get to than the manifold bolts.

How should I go about evenly torquing the manifold bolts when I get the new gasket? Even with the turbo off, you still cant get a socket on the lower manifold bolts... 14mm btw, I think yall know that.

Good turbo FTW!
Now that its quieter, its obvious that theres a leak in the manifold gasket. Not coming from turbo at all.

I use a really thin wrench and tighten down each bolt slowly. Usually there is space to get to them between the runners.

I used a box end and I got em tight, I'm just worried about even torque. Hopefully with the new gaskets there wont be ant problems.

Got the wideband logging in HPT, should be on the street the next day or 2. Getting the tires on tomorrow I cant go above 5500 without pulling all over the place... can't wait to get some dyno numbers too, but I need to save up $60 for some pulls, I think I'm better off going up to norwalk and getting some 1/4 mile times.

New manifold gasket installed. Leak moved right to the re-used turbo inlet gasket. Lesson learned.

Coming this week
-Inlet gasket
-NKG Iridium's

To do today:
Putting my bumper back on, along with my new tires, and then an alignment after I put the koni yellow sport kit on.

Pics of how she sits depending on how tired I am when I'm done with this on top of a job I need to have done in 2 hours.

May I add, that my fuel level gauge works intermittently now. :/
I don't see much benefit from a diy FP harness at this point in the build until winter, but be aware that a diy is coming.
