You can cheat it and use a 1/2" drill and still use a 1/4NPT pipe plug.

I'll call them tomorrow, and see how big they managed to get. They were afraid of braking threw the block.

while I didnt do the drilling of the block myself, I can now say I would be confident in doing it. I did do the rest of the holes, for mounting the block, and blocking off the stock oil passages.

I have Protomec's how-to saved, as well as a crappy way from Mantapart....... which is pretty much worthless.

A sticky with the part numbers, the how too, and a bunch of pics is a must though.

Diesell, Since you have a 95 wouldn't be easier to get a pre 95 2.3 block and start with that??? Then you don't have to do all the machine work.

I have a older 2.3L block from Protomec and to tell you the truth, I haven't even been able to have a really good look at it. Protomec would be able to answer that question better than I. He knows where the block came from.

Time to get it going again.....

So, now that I've heard a few different opinions about what block to use for the balance shaft removal, my question is, for those who may know; do I have to swap my 95 2.3L block for the balance shaft removal?.....is the hole(thats supposed to be drilled in the block) there in my 95 2.3 block??? Or do I use the older 2.3L block that was given to me??? I know its an older block, but not exactly sure. I should've asked Protomec this when I seen him.........stupid me.

It would be easier for you to use the older 2.3 block given to you. The older 2.3 block does not have the balance shafts that you want to remove from the 95 2.3 and 96-02 2.4 blocks

is anyone working on the sticky for this? I might be getting a 2.4 block out of a Grand Am SE, and would like to try this for my '02 Cav.

And DON'T use the one that tells you to drill out the block and press in a tube and a bunch of other silly crap...

why not do it that way, i've done two engines like that, one with well over 30,000km's on it, it was just as expensive and its affective... however back when i was doing the swap, no one had pics of or a writeup of where how or where the angles were supposed to be so i spent quite some time on the mill @!#$ a block up trying to figure it out, i eventually gave up on it and went the tube route as was reccomended by a few "old timers"

if you wouldnt mind could you forward those pics to me please? i wouldnt mind taking a look at it and possibly giving it a go that way myself

Thanks
Justin
