^^^ really? jeez, i figured most people would actually want the more oil capasity. thats why i havent really said anything yet.

this guy had about 200 of these aluminum pick-up relocator blocks made up, so we've there is MORE than plenty to go around. 100 of the one style and 100 of the other if i recall. the other style pick up block also has an o-ring groove cut into it so its an extremely well thought out and designed piece.

i will see about maybe getting a group purchase going and if the machinist will give us any kind of a discount.

chris- ive never gotten into the bottom of a 87-90 engine before so i dont know what that pick up looks like. however, iirc he told me this particular one is for a some kind of cadillac??? dont quote me on that though. i'll look into it.

well, i am too what i like a lot about keeping a stock is pan now the dipstick level stays the same/correct and you are no longer guessing as to how much it has.

if you want extra oil capacity, get an oil cooler.

talked to the guy (ray is his name), he said he would look into doing a discount for us as well as look up the part number for the different pick-up so we can purchase it serperately. he said it may be a couple days though as he was pretty busy working on his porch.

so who would be down for a group purchase? i told him to do a price on 5 sold at once.

Oh, I do. But if I could run a stock pan, I would be much happier. I've already tore the bottom of my pan off in a parking lot, and that put my car down for the count for almost a month because I had to find a tig welder in the area to fix it. If it ever happened again, I'd love to just buy a stock pan and be done with it. Or I should just quit being lazy and weld up a skid plate to cover the pan.

ok guys, he has 16 of the new style blocks available...

he said he would knock off $10 each if there were five buyers and $20 each if ten buyers. normal price is $110 each.

5 buyers = $100 + shipping
10 buyers = $90 + shipping

i think its pretty resonable. pick up tubes can be bought at any local auto parts store, it is a melling part. he didnt have the part number right there in front of him thats the only reason i do not have it. he said they run about $30 each, or at least they did 3 years ago.

You are going to take this into a legitimate GP and not get this thread locked right?

Personal UP-IN-ion warning...

It looks to me like the alternate pickup would be the better way to go. It would place the pickup more to the back of the pan where the oil would slosh to on hard acceleration...

absolutely, i agree. plus the pick-up surfface area 'hole' is physically larger than the 2.3 one as well if i am not mistaken.

however, the machinist told me that they have used either set-up in their race cars without issue. the only time they really ran into issues with engines blowing was when they rod bearings fail at something around 16:1 compression. they've used a 2.3 head on top of an .080 bored out 2.4 with DOMED pistons, decked head and decked block.

Btw, I already have a Mercedes Benz Behr oil cooler which gives the 'blu a 6 quart capacity using the MotorCraft FL-1A filter. I'd think that's enough capacity without having a deeper oil pan.
I also like the idea of the pickup being in the back of the pan too.
