the pictures are in the '2.3 oil pump swap sticky' thread. it hasnt been stickied but if you type that in the search it comes up.

now i know you wanna do the swap but do you wanna keep the stock pan depth while doing it?

well it all depends on what you want.

you can retain the stock oil pan but it costs a little over $100 for the custom relocation block. (pm me if interested)

the deeper pan allows you to run extra oil, however... if you run an external oil cooler setup you also can run more oil. not only will it give you more oil capacity but it will also keep you're oil cooled and circulated.

the only real benefit of retaining the stock pan is so that you dont have to worry about ripping it off if you are lowered... but lets be honest here, just how many instances of that have we heard of that happening on here? none that i can remember. but the pan does hang down pretty low.

I've actually seen a neon rip a pan off.....fun to watch. When I tried to tell them they thought I wanted to race...lol. I said screw it and just followed the massive trail of oil until the engine died.

Sorry. /end thread jack

Are the parts still available through gm for the pump swap?
And whats the typical costs for the parts all together?I'd like to do this mod, once i find a spare motor to build.

wait am I reading this right?.....are you saying its okay to run the 2.3 oil pump with a stock unmodified 2.4 oil pan? There is enough clearance? I have to disagree.

GMR has got nothing on this

look at my pics, raf....

its possible with a custom relocation block

it just tweaks the pick up ever so slightly so that it fits. the idea came from a guy that was trying to keep the pan un-modified for stock car racing. so the officials wouldnt know it was modded...

believe me, it works.

OH whats the price for the relocation parts?
Looks good, and the idea on no pan mods sounds really nice.
Whats the clearance between the pickup and the pan?

Well thats news to me and Im glad there has been a development in this area. So you dont even need to grind down some of the inside portion either?

^^ yes actually you do, but thats all easy stuff. just like in the area in the back where the pump sits an edge still needs to be clearanced.

redlined- did you mean even with the new relocation design you have to beat them on? ray never said a word about that...

me personally... i am going with the new style pick up anyways...

This was 2 or 3 years go......I dont know about the new relocation design. I personally like adding on too the pan. I like that extra 1 to 1 1/2 qts it holds. Alot of these guys that are racing the 2.4L are putting on accumulators and these motors are holding together on 1/2 mile dirt tracks..

p.s. 2.4L w/2.3 oil pump conversion CHEAP in CLASSIFIEDS PM ME $1,500 EASTERN IOWA
