Luke, for all the places that require plugs, you can just weld them shut and grind it flush right? It seems like a lot of work to drill and tap and go searching for all the plugs and such when you could just weld them closed.

I had all of mine welded.

Yes, you can weld them shut if you want, but I chose to just tap and plug them. I have all the plugs listed, which are all common sizes that can be found at any hardware store. Also, I talked to a few different welders, and they said to do it properly to prevent fractures, etc. the block must be heated and cooled during the welding process, which is time consuming. It is really up to you. If you have the money for someone to weld it, go ahead. But I was trying to save some money and plugged them myself.

I heard the same about welding on cast when you weld on cast they say the weld doesnt stick like welding on iron. and that it may crack out or fracture.

So i think i might just use plugs now.

Glad the pics are helpful! Once I get my block back from the machine shop, I plan to take more pics, and try to do a write-up that will hopefully be stickied.

You have to slightly bend it in. Place one of the long ends on the ground, and put pressure on the opposite side, and bend it with the curve. It shouldn't take too much for it to fit. Also, a few of the tabs on the sides have to be bent back to clear the side of the block.

I don't understand why this thread doesn't just become a sticky. all the info is here, links, and pics with all the appropriate credit given. it may even teach people to search and read through a thread or 2 before starting a new thread with a similar name and all the same questions. All the pics that everyone is asking to be e-mail to you, just sign-up on the quad4 forums and use that link that was posted earlier like 4 times. what's the big deal, if there isn't any info here, then you can at least search there and not start a new topic that's most likely been covered. And just so everyone knows, i'll even post the link to the quad4 forums again. thanks to urweak for posting this find in the first place. http://www.quad4forums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6173

I think you should make all the info on one page that way we dont have to read 7 different pages.
