Awesome...what are your oil pressures like during idle and WOT?

nice pics man, that shows exactly how easy the process is, and you can see in one of the pics which holes you have to fill in, good job.

Paul, what size drill bill did you use to drill the angled and vertical holes? I will take a pic in a little bit so you can see which holes need to be plugged.

i drilled the vertical up and down one with a 1/2" the hole coming in from the side taping into the oil gally is 7/16. Will 7/16" be good or do i need 1/2" ?

Thanks Luke that would help out alot.

It's hard to say. Some people I know have used 7/16" and that has worked just fine. The problem with drilling it to 1/2" is that it would need to be welded, since the drill size for a 1/4" NPT tap is 7/16". If you are getting it welded anyway, and feel comfortable drilling it to 1/2", I would do that. If not, I think it will be fine.

Red circles indicate oil feed holes that must be plugged.
Green circles indicate holes that must be drilled and tapped for the windage tray bolts.
Yellow circles are holes that must be drilled for the oil pump locator dowels.
Purple circle is where the new oil feed hole must be drilled for the 2.3L pump.

1. Is already drilled and tapped, but for a metric bolt. The thread is nearly identical for a 1/4"-18 NPT plug. Just Loctite the plug, and screw it in tight.
2. Is already drilled, but must be re-drilled to a letter "R" drill bit, and then tapped for a 1/8"-27 NPT plug.
3. Is already drilled, but must be re-drilled to a 37/64" drill bit, and then tapped for a 3/8"-18 NPT plug.
4. The two #4's across from each other on the left end of the pic, I drilled to 5/16" and then tapped for a 3/8"-24 bolt, and used a flange head bolt.
The other #4 on the right side of the pic, I drilled to 11/32" and then tapped for a M10x1.5 stud. That way it matched the hole right below #3, which is M10x1.5, and is already in the right place. I used studs here because I have to use a nut to hold down the windage tray, then the oil pump screen bracket sits on top of the nut, and another nuts then holds down the bracket.
5.These holes must be drilled for the oil pump locator dowels. I believe they are 7/32". Don't quote me on that.
6. This hole must be drilled for the new oil pump feed hole.

This question may be stupid but I haven't actually seen a bare LD9 block. The slice of block you cut off to drill the horizontal oil feed hole, does that have any effect on sealing the block or what ever is right there?

Also if I have access to a drill press, all the right bits and taps should I be able to do this? I have a fair amount of wood working knowledge and some metal machining experience. I will be doing it on a spare block so time won't be an issue.

Thanks for all the info in this post.

you wouldn't even need a drill press but might help. i have one in my garage and didn't even use it lol.

Cutting the angled slice in the block has no effect on anything.
