Your work is inspiring PJ, I'm sitting here getting antsy as hell wishing I could work on getting my swap finished up but the car is 120 miles away.

Way to make me miserable man!

It sure is nice to have guys around like you though, PJ = 75% of the posts in performance that are worth a crap.

Can't wait to see this thing running here soon, watching the mad scientist certainly is fun.

today's update:

I got the fittings and lines for the master cylinder to distribution block. although the rain put a damper on my efforts for today so I called it quits early.

I also began fabbing up the bracket for the 2200 OHV power steering pump. It looks like its going to work out fairly well.

here's the pump with the reservoir removed (two clips on either side)

held up to the block to get a general idea of where I want to place the pump

1/4" thick steel welded in a nice angle. I even squared it up drilled two holes for the rear mounting slots on the pump

made a bracket to go between two holes that are on the same height and vertical line. straight 1/4" steel should do the trick...

all I need to do now is mount the oil pan after setting up the timing chains and putting the 05 L61 head on it so I can get a final position and weld the bitch in place

then I hunt for a belt that will fit. A stock L61 belt for a car with a/c should be close, but I don't think it'll be quite long enough since the PS pulley is a little bit larger than the a/c pulley

I'm assuming your using the L61 crank in the LSJ block....Correct. Since the LSJ crank is 6 ribs, and has a slightly different center line than the 5 ribbed L61 crank.

Also if you need smaller PS pulley I could probably get you one made up.
The PS pump is going to be over driven using the L61 crank compared to the LN2 crank.
LN2 centerline of pulley groove diameter is 6.140"
L61 centerline of pulley groove diameter is 6.295"

^^wrong. I'm using the LSJ bottom end. complete. But using an RKsport L61 underdrive crank pulley

the ps pump should be a bit under driven if anything... but I'm hoping it will equal out

Well a RKSprot crank pulley is 20% under driven, which would be a diameter of 5.036".
So the PS pump should be about 17.5% under driven.

couple things with the master cylinder, forgive me if you have already covered them, i tried reading it all... but damn its a lot!

the stock MC's reservoir is angled so that it's level, does this pose a problem with the wilwood unit not being level?

how the F are you going to get that back screw out of the cap to check the fluid?!

Rollin' on question marks since 07.

the access to the rear screw isn't that bad I'm sure I'll manage.

the level issue is somewhat of a concern. if it does post a problem, I can re-fab the mounting plate to angle the MC properly, but I don't think it'll be too much of an issue. The inside of the MC has a completely separate reservoirs for the primary and secondary circuits. The pressure output is 50/50, but the reservoir size is 2:1 primary vs secondary. But the wall that separates them goes all the way to the lid so as long as enough fluid is in there it'll be fine.

pj youll be fine with the master cyl mounted at that angle , only thing is youll have to have it level to bleed it properly , if you look at alot of older cars the master sat on angles , wasnt untill they started using plastic reservoirs that they really went to making them level

install looks pretty good

ok then.. makes sense.

so whats the difference between the stock brake output and one of these 'manual' units?? i mean will the car stop like stock or better???worse???

It'll just be harder to floor the brake pedal.

if the sizing is correct, it shouldn't feel much harder than stock.

i did it primarily to clean up under the engine bay. I'm tired of having a jumble of hoses and wires over there.

so today I felt like finishing up the brake lines, and making a bracket to support the brake distributor.

after some switching fittings around and manhandling of the hardlines...

looks pretty good. I think I like this.

the support bracket all fabbed up.

bolted inplace. All thats left is painting the bracket so it doesn't rust.

the only part of the brakes left now is the stainless steel lines I have for the corners and its all done!

today I scored a part that may allow me to run the oil cooler:

this is a water neck from a 2007 2.2 cobalt. It has the notch for the F23 and kicks the lower rad hose out so it could possibly clear the cooler.

Now I'm waiting on my replacement bushing set from LZM (thanks a TON clay!) so I can install my balance shaft delete kit in the LSJ. Picked up my headgasket today so this weekend (or whenever I get the LZM bushings) I'll be assembling the LS61.

did only a little bit today. Here's the 2005 2.2 head mounted on the LSJ:

now all I need is the new bushings for the balance shaft delete kit, and the engine will be fully assembled

then I decided to clean up my fuel rail and tap it for 1/2 NPT (going AN fitings and braided lines)

comparison of the stock rail and the skwirlly rail:

its getting there

what head gasket are you using, and did it need to be modified?

L61 headgasket. LSJ and L61 gaskets are interchangable. No modification required.

I tapped the girdle 3/8 NPT for an oil return today. Its unused for now but...

just in case

I know its alittle late, but have you thought about using an electric motor to turn the P/S pump?

So what did you do with your MSD set up? are you still planning on using some of it or are you going a whole new route?

ladies and gentlemen... the LS61.

balance shaft delete kit re-installed with new blocker rings from clay... THANKS CLAY @ levelzeromotorsports.com!!!!

Head torqued down to 75lbs-ft with ARP headstuds and an OEM L61 headgasket.

GM Racing adjustable cam gears THANKS KARO! Allecotec.com/ Carcustoms.net

Engine timed, cam gears locked up at zero degrees.. ready for dyno tuning.

All buttoned up...

Ready for a night on the town.

The engine is complete, and ready to go. The only thing I need to solve/work on still is the thermostat housing and lower radiator hose setup... then finish the power steering relocation and its compeltely done. Little details at best.

After that I need to finish my upgraded fuel rail and fuel lines/ external adjustable fuel pressure regulator.. this has to wait until the drivetrain is re-installed in the skwirl.

...and just in case

3/8 NPT oil return (plugged up but ready to go... just in case )

some more updates later in the week of the new fuel rail, fuel lines and AFPR
