You guys drive way too much my 2.3 only has a little over 61,000 miles !
I have a 1998 z24 with 196,160 miles and still running like new. Granted I have run into a few problems like the sunroof was stuck open once, and the car tends to get hot in stop and go traffic unless the a/c is on... I didn't know these engines were known for internal problems, but the records for the car are pretty thick so maybe a past owner did some fixing (I got it about 40,000 miles ago)
174,500 miles, never any problems.
2001 Olds Alero (LD9)

@turboalero
Matt-Check that your cooling fan is coming on when the engine gets hot and the A/C off. The fan automatically turns on when the A/C is on, so maybe this is part of your over heating problem. If so, you may only need to change out the cooling fan temperature sensor.
I hav 134,000miles on my 01 still runs like new.
152,000 miles on my 2000 LS
155,000 miles. OEM water pump. 30 mpg commuting.
blew up at 155,000 miles
I have about 2,000 miles on my new one.
I just cant drive 55
2005 cavalier - 48,000 miles
I am just curious how you guys measure how many miles you're getting per gallon??
Thanks!
118k on my '97 GT and it just died
i got 130,000 and change on my 98 Z. Everything is still fine and i havent had any problems with it yet. Im getting roughly 22mpg but driving in towns and what not.
Rolling up on 145,000 on my 4-spd auto '96 GT Sunfire
I have had to replace:
Fuel regulator (11/07)
Water pump (09/05) Battery (05/05)
2 Tranny-pans from scraping across concrete driveway entrances (car sets 2.5" off the ground at the pan).
Lost exhaust from the cat-back to a chunk of road patch...City of Lorain paid for a NEW RK Sport Dual and MagnaFlo High-Flo cat...LOL...suckers. I even went to a council meeting and brought along the rock. (04/05)
Fuel consumption: 30 MPG in combined driving
I race every other week at the local track (10.4 eighth times)
SCCA once a month (resulting in 7 wheel bearing replacements, two axles and 3 sets of tires)
The car has given me no real problems. The tranny shifts crisp with no lag, even to red line.
I wish there was a suspension swap on the rear...anyone?
I can't complain. Got the car for $2500 in '98 from a guy thought the engine was blown...turned out to be a conflict in the security alarm he'd put in...had it removed, car ran great. I'm in the process now of replacing all my Ohio panels with wonderfully rust-free Alabama and Florida panels...including the boot and bonnet, which I'm sanding for final paint right now. They're black to match the roof...since the '96 was the only year produced with a black roof.
157,000 miles on my 2000 LS. I usually get 28-29 mpg combined city and highway.
138,000 on my 98 had to replace water pump and timing chain at about 105,00
112,000 Never had a problem what so ever.
101000 and it's dead. swapped
98 Z24 is at 88683 New water pump at 87K (was origional pump) and did the HG while i was in there just for good measure.
02 Z24 doesnt count as its not stock, but the car has 87K on it.
159,700 miles on my 2000 LS Sedan.
Let's see, the only major components replaced thus far is the fuel pump and the power steering pump. I generally get 27-28 mpg combined city highway driving to and from work. I drive it about 75 miles a day.
To and from work in my 98 (all city) I usualy average 27 in the winter and 29.5 in the summer.
Just hit 160,000 miles on the odo.
167,500 miles.
The cooling fan just died!
